Dr. Sanda Moldovan explains carbon 60, a soccer ball-shaped molecule discovered in 1985 whose discoverers won the 1996 Nobel Prize. A battery study showed it extended test animals' lifespan by 90 percent. C60 is described as an extremely powerful antioxidant.

An approximately 90% increase in lifespan (as reported in the clip).
In the early 2000s.
What is carbon 60 and where do you get it from?
Well, it's a little carbon molecule, a 60 carbon. It's actually shaped like a little soccer ball. Exactly like a little soccer ball, but it's hollow inside. And it was discovered in 1985. They got a Nobel Prize in chemistry in 1996 because it's pretty much one of the most unique molecules in nature. We'll probably get into some of that later. It's action. But it was really hard to make. And it wasn't until the early 2000s they started doing testing. And one of the most famous studies is the battery study, which was a study actually testing for toxicity. But instead of being toxic to test animals, it actually increased their lifespan by 90%. And that's kind of what led to a whole lot more research on C60. And really what they discovered is they discovered it was really a incredibly powerful antioxidant.
