A short YouTube tutorial by Dr. Sanda Moldovan explaining how to clean dental appliances (retainers, sports guards). She demonstrates using an ultrasonic cleaner with an enzymatic tablet, recommends cleaning regularly (preferably in the morning so appliances dry before use), and advises leaving items in the cleaner for about five minutes to remove biofilm. She offers contact via Twitter (rsanda), email, or Facebook for questions.

Hi, everyone. I'm Dr. Sanda. I want to teach you today how to clean your dental appliances, because many of you probably have them lying around the house, right? You take out your nightly retainer, you put it on your nightstand. The dog comes, he eats it. Gross. Anyway, it's important to keep these clean. Okay, so what you want to do when you take it out, you want to have some kind of enzymatic cleaner or some wash in order to be cleaning these products properly. Let's say you don't have time in the morning, do it at night, but I advise you to do this in the morning. So you let it dry so it's ready for you to wear it at night. Even if it's a sports guard, you should still be cleaning them regularly with an enzymatic cleaner. So let me show you how to do this properly. So right here in front of me, I actually have an ultrasonic cleaner. And the ultrasonic cleaner essentially is small. It could fit on your countertop. What you want to do is take an enzymatic tablet, drop it in the water, and you're going to see this bubbling. So while this is bubbling, you can actually turn it on. You might be able to even hear it. And this is an ultrasonic cleaner that essentially vibrates. And you can drop in your appliances and you can close the lid, leave them in for about five minutes. And the enzymatic cleaner is actually going to do the job. And I'm going to turn it off so you can hear me better. But in about five minutes, all that gunk, all the biofilm that has been developing overnight is going to be washed away. If you have any questions, don't be afraid to tweet me, rsanda, or you can send me an email or a Facebook message. Keep your appliances clean.
