Hi, I'm Dr. Sanda. You just found out that you need oral surgery. So let's go over a few things because I want to make sure you are prepared both mentally and physically for this procedure. Number one most important thing is to eat a well balanced diet. Vitamins and minerals that you find in fruits and vegetables, and good protein sources to make sure that you're going to heal well after your procedures. So the other thing that's important is if I gave you vitamins and mineral supplements to take, please do so as I prescribed. Drink lots of water and stay hydrated. It's also a very important thing for after your procedure. For the day of the procedure, wear loose, comfortable clothing. I want you to be comfortable. You could bring even headphones if you like. While you're sitting there, at least you have something to distract you away from what I'm doing or what your surgeon will be doing. Also, please remember, do not wear any makeup and no jewelry that day. We suggest having something to eat prior to your procedure. But if you're going to have IV sedation, make sure you do not eat at least six hours prior to your procedure. The anesthesiologist will actually going to call you the night before to make sure that you know all these things. Let's talk a little bit about medications. Now. If you're taking some medications for diabetes and blood pressure, make sure you take those according to the way the doctor has prescribed them. Do not discontinue those. However, if you are taking a blood thinner such as aspirin or Plavix, or even a supplement such as vitamin E or red yeast rice, make sure you discontinue those because those can cause you to have bleeding after the procedure. Those we want to discontinue about 10 days prior to your procedure. But make sure you consult your physician or your dentist prior prior to doing that. So last but not least, I want to make sure that you're going with a positive attitude. I cannot tell you how important that is. You know, when you're relaxed, I'm relaxed. So the night before, make sure you avoid any coffee or alcohol. You can even do a little meditation to just get yourself in that positive mindset. See you the day of the procedure.
