A short YouTube video by Dr. Sanda Moldovan explaining the two-way relationship between diabetes and oral health: poor oral care can worsen diabetes and uncontrolled diabetes impedes dental treatment. She recommends that people diagnosed with diabetes see a periodontist, maintain good oral hygiene (brushing, using a water irrigator), and follow a healthy diet with sugar substitutes such as xylitol or stevia to reduce sugar intake. The video closes with contact instructions.

Hi, everyone, I'm Dr. Sanda. Welcome to my channel Today. I wanted to talk to you about diabetes and oral health. And the reason why it's so important is because we know from the studies that if you have diabetes and you don't take care of your teeth, it'll actually worsen your diabetes. And the other way around, if you actually have bad teeth and you're trying to make them better, but you're not taking care of your diabetes, you we won't be able to take care of your teeth. So it's got this great relationship between oral health and diabetes. So what can you do at home to ensure that you're gonna have a healthy mouth and healthy body? If you're diagnosed with diabetes, really the first thing you should do is see a periodontist to make sure that your gums are healthy and there's no inflammation. Also make sure you brush and use a water irrigator around your teeth to ensure that these are healthy. And it really creates that firmness around the gingiva so it doesn't allow bacteria to migrate to the bone level. The other thing you can do with your diabetes is keep a healthy diet. That's so important. The mouth is a gateway to your health. So with diabetes, if you have especially a sugar addiction, there's so many ways that you can stop that or help substitute sugar or something that like xylitol or something like stevia so you can get that sweet taste but without the damage. If you have any other questions, please go ahead and tweet me at Drsanda or send me a message right here. Until next time, take care of yourself.
