Using VITAMIN C to Boost Your Immune System

A short YouTube talk (Dr. Sanda Moldovan) about vitamin C for immune support. Covers dietary sources and how processing/cooking reduces vitamin C, compares supplement forms (natural vs synthetic vs liposomal), gives a practical dosing recommendation for oral use, and mentions clinical/IV uses including perioperative and ICU/COVID-19 contexts.

Foreign Hi everyone, I'm Dr. Sandha. Welcome back to our talk on the immune boosting supplements and foods that we can have at home in order to stay healthy in today's world of viral attacks. I do want to mention that we have the Institute of Functional Medicine resources on botanical recommendation for patients. You can find this on on orasana.com if you'd like to see the full list. But today's topic is vitamin C. And of course a lot of, you know, vitamin C. You know, when you have a cold, let's take some vitamin C. But really I think we have a deficiency of vitamin C today because most of you are not eating fresh, for example, citrus, lemons, limes, apples that are full of vitamin C. So when vitamin C is probably processed or cooked, it's actually degrading. So you might not be getting adequate level of vitamin C. Vitamin C can come in different forms besides foods. It can come as synthetic supplements, which actually you don't really want. If you're going to take it in the form of supplements, just make sure that you have a naturally occurring vitamin C such as acerolas or for example, these are gummies with vitamin C, but they also contain acerola and rose hips because it helps with the vitamin C working better for you. But my favorite way of taking vitamin C is in the liposomal form and the liposomal is actually a liquid. So the liquid itself is actually filled with little microscopic spheres of liposomal that actually helps the vitamin C get inside your cells. When you take vitamin C in a pill form, in synthetic form, you're going to peer right out, it's gonna come right out of your body and it's not gonna get inside your cells when you really need it. So liposomal actually helps deliver vitamin C better into your cells. So my favorite way to do this is to take one or two teaspoons daily. In the morning, you wanna hold it in your mouth for about 15 to 30 seconds because it already gets absorbed through your oral tissues inside your body. And ideally would be to be taken on an empty stomach. The recommendation dose is 1 to 3 grams orally daily. And this is to support your immune system. But also vitamin C has been used in hospital ICUs to treat COVID 19 infections. And you know, vitamin C can also be used in an IV format. A lot of my patients undergoing surgery, I do recommend having an IV with vitamin C to support their healing because vitamin C is so important in connective tissue formation for not only infection, but also surgical procedures and keeping a nice supple skin, for example. Cheers. To your health and see you next time. Hi, I'm Dr. Sanda. If you have any questions or comments or you'd like to see any videos, please please mark them below.
