A short educational YouTube video by Dr. Sanda Moldovan explaining what probiotics are, showing examples (capsule and liquid shot), defining the term ("pro" = for, "biotics" = life), and advising daily replenishment via supplements or fermented foods. Dr. Sanda names common probiotic genera (Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium) and mentions the fungus Saccharomyces for maintaining bowel balance.

Hi, everyone, I'm Dr. Sandha. Welcome to my channel. Today we will be talking about what are probiotics? And I have a few samples here. This is actually a probiotic tablet that you will be taking, usually for the stomach. So it's a capsule. I recommend not opening these when you take them because really the capsule protects against stomach acids when we take a probiotics. But the easiest and simplest way to take it is really. This is a probiotic shot, actually, that I picked up at the store and it's in a liquid form. So what do probiotics mean? Pro means for and biotics means life. So pro life. On our bodies, we have many millions and trillions of different bacteria and different fungus that all live together. Those are the probiotics. They're helping us live a healthier life. That's the way we should think about it, versus antibiotics, which are killing life. Why do we need to take probiotics? It's really because we need to replenish our supplies on a daily basis, something that our ancestors have done for many thousands of years by eating fermented foods. So probiotics are not just bacteria. It could be Lactobacillus, it could be Bifidobacterium, but we also have a fungus, for example, Saccharomyces, that is actually helping our stomach stay balanced. So on those days where you might have a loose stool, it's really important to take saccharomyces because it really keeps things in check. Until next time, keep taking your probiotics.
