Dylan Andersen compares DJI Action 3 and Action 2 cameras at 16 inches using the wide-lens preset. The Action 2 is slightly sharper in background texture and extreme close-ups, but the Action 3 shows major improvement over his earlier unit and delivers solid sharpness for real-world use. The Action 3's better battery life and features make it worth the upgrade if properly focused.

This is the DJI Action 3. A lot has been made of some of the close focusing issues that this camera had when it originally came out last year. In my hand here, I have a September 2022 manufactured unit. It's my second unit. I returned the original one that I got that was in August 2022 date. I did find that I had some close focusing issues with the fixed lens there. But this unit seems to be a lot better. And my question today is, is it as Sharp as the Action 2? Most people have shown that even the best Action 3 units aren't as shar Action 2. But that's probably because the Action 3 has a much wider lens. So let's take a look at a couple quick examples. Action three versus the Action two. So here's the first one here. On the left is the action 3. On the right is the action 2. Right off the bat you can see that the Action 2 is a hair sharper. Something you're only going to notice side by side. But I will say that the Action three on the left is a lot sharper than my original unit by a lot. And here I think it's pretty comparable again on a YouTube video. You're only going to notice that side by side. But I think for the most part, this unit DJI Action 3 on the left is pretty great. Again, same settings, both using the wide preset for the lens and just some distance tests here. It's about 16 inches away. And as I bring this charger closer, you're gonna see that the Action 2 on the right is definitely sharper. So certainly it has an advantage there. And even the background, you can see the stucco on the walls a little bit more in detail on the Action 2 As I bring the camera closer here, focus on the Fujifilm logo there, you can see that just about there it starts to fall out of focus on the Action 3, whereas Action 2 is starting to lose focus about there at the end. But really happy with the Action three. And I think again with the features and the. The better body and battery life, etcetera, I think it's a great upgrade if you can find a unit that's in focus.
