Welcome to the High Income Business Writing Podcast, helping you propel your writing business to a whole new level. And now, here's your host, Ed Gandia.
Hey there. Welcome to the High Income Business Writing Podcast. I am your host, Ed Gandia, and this is the podcast for business writers and copywriters who want to earn more and less time doing work they love or better client. This episode is a little different and much shorter than usual rather than my typical 45 minute format. Today I'm sharing a quick tip with you and this is part of the regular audio insights that I publish for my private coaching clients. I just thought you'd find it helpful. So here we go. I hope you enjoy it.
Here's a quick idea for you today. Productize something you do really well. Productize a service that right now you offer as a custom service. As a bespoke service. It's a lot easier to promote a very specific productized offer and include your fixed fee than it is to market a customized service with no pricing attached to it. So productized service is really a fancy way of saying fixed scope, fixed fee, as opposed to the way most of us price our work, which is completely custom. I always like to think of a product I service as a craftsman who, instead of saying, look, you tell me what kind of furniture you need me to build, I'll build it for you, we'll sketch it out and you know, I can give you a price at that point and then just get to work. The difference between that or saying, well, I can do that. But let me show you a catalog of these three things. These three dining room tables that I have, and you can have them and one of three different types of wood. So there is some option for customization, but very, very limited. Now you have tiers rather than customized products. So bottom line is consider productizing something you do really well, you enjoy doing and kind of lends itself to maybe with a little bit of imagination, to fixing the scope and fixing the price, even if you have to offer tiers, levels or flavors.
