Every profession, hobby, sport or worthwhile endeavor has its own set of fundamentals. Fundamentals that must be mastered if you ever hope to get consistently good at that thing. The thing about fundamentals is that they tend to be boring in almost every case. They're hard to master. So when you're starting out, or when you're trying to break into a new level of mastery, it's tempting to look for the shortcuts, to look for ways around having to learn, apply and master those new fundamentals. After all, we live in a I want it now society. We want quick and instant results. I get it. I'm the same way. We all look for workarounds, for ways to get the result without the practice or the effort. You see this all the time in recreational sports. And guys, by the way, are typically much worse about this than the ladies in golf. Most recreational players think that a better set of golf clubs and going to improve their game. They really believe that that $500 driver is going to make a huge difference or that more expensive golf balls will help them beat their friends on Saturday because of greater distance or accuracy. And then something happens that completely shatters that myth. Just recently, a 60 year old US army veteran won the Golf Week Amateur Tour in Arizona. He shot in 84, which is excellent. What kind of clubs did he use? Well, here's the thing. He didn't use a set of clubs. He won by using just one club in all 18 holes for every stroke. One club. He just carried that one club. And that club, get this was a $2.99 Wilson staff putter that he bought at a local Goodwill store. You heard that right? This man won an entire golf championship using a $3 putter and nothing else. Look, you don't need a fancy CRM system, an $8,000 website, a fancy degree or a whole roster of Fortune 500 clients and impressive background to earn a great living and to grow your business, all you need to focus on are a few fundamentals and working on getting better at these things and developing the right habits around them. I'm talking about things such as positioning, messaging, prospecting, client attraction, pricing, follow up, productivity, focus, mindset. You know what these things are. You know what you need to do and what you need to work on. It's not a mystery. The key though, is to focus on getting better in these areas one baby step at a time. It's about developing the right habits, about consistency, about course correcting and getting help along the way with that course correction. Focus on that and you'll win your own internal championships. No fancy equipment needed. Well, that's it for today.
