Welcome to the High Income Business Writing Podcast, helping you propel your writing business to a whole new level. And now, here's your host, Ed Gandia.
Hey there. Welcome to another episode of the High Income Business Writing Podcast, the number one podcast for business writers and copywriters who want to earn more and less time doing work they love for better clients. With over 1 million downloads from listeners just like you across 101 countries, this episode is much shorter than usual. Rather than my typical 45 minute format. Today I'm sharing a quick tip with you. This is part of the audio Insights I publish for my private coaching clients every weekday and I thought you'd find it helpful. So here we go. Hope you enjoy it.
You're working to improve your business and grow your income without working more hours. So you implement a number of new strategies and approaches. You raise your fees. You structure your client engagements differently. You offer strategy as a service. You start offering bundles and pricing tiers. You move to a retainer only model. Maybe it's just one of those things, or a combination of them. Doesn't really matter. The point is that whatever you're doing to improve is new for you. So it's uncomfortable. Might even feel weird or even downright wrong to try to earn more and less time with some of your clients. Before you know it, you are backpedaling and you either don't do the work to move in this direction or you don't implement it effectively or with the confidence it requires. So you don't get the results you need and you're back at square one, right? Sound familiar? I know it sounds very familiar for me. I've been there many, many times and it's more common than you might think. We've all been guilty of that kind of self sabotage. It's resistance rearing its ugly head. It's your lizard brain trying to keep you safe. The good news is that you can beat this resistance. You can overcome those fears and insecurities. People with fewer skills, intelligence and capabilities have done it. So I know for a fact you can do it. But it starts by recognizing what's going on here. It starts by seeing that resistance for what it really is and making a commitment to push through it, regardless of how uncomfortable it might be. Feel to you. If you can't think of a way to do that, try leveraging anger in a productive way. Remind yourself that you've been short selling yourself for a long, long time. You've been undercharging over, delivering value to your clients, bending over backwards, making a huge difference for clients and stressing out over your work way more than you probably should have. In fact, probably stressing yourself out on projects way more than your contact is your client's organization. So get mad if you have to and use that as fuel to do what you know you need to do. Because in the end, what really matters is that you level up. You create a new normal for yourself. How you psych yourself out to make that happen is not as important.
