In this instructional video, Beth Dodson walks viewers through planning and executing paint projects while showcasing how to use the HomeZada app to record and manage paint color information. She begins by describing why spring is an ideal season for painting, noting how humidity and temperature affect paint adhesion and drying time, and emphasizes proper ventilation. Dodson then compares DIY painting room‑by‑room versus hiring professional painters for larger interior (and occasional exterior) jobs, sharing her own experience hiring skilled painters for a sizable home. The core of the tutorial demonstrates entering paint details into HomeZada’s home‑inventory section: naming each space, logging the paint brand, color name, and code (e.g., Kelly‑Moore KM542‑L “Cape Hatteras”), and noting trim colors. She explains how this documentation saved her time when coordinating with contractors and prevented the hassle of re‑measuring or guessing colors for touch‑ups. Dodson also stresses proper paint disposal—never pour paint down drains, instead use local waste‑management facilities—to avoid environmental harm and moldy cans. Finally, she encourages viewers to adopt this tracking habit for future projects, promising that the stored data will simplify any later repainting or touch‑up work, and invites questions for further HomeZada content.

Hi everyone, Beth Dodson here. Thank you for joining me. I wanted to talk to you a little bit today about paint, and I have brought this can with me to help demonstrate what we're going to talk about when it refers to paint. So a couple things are happening is in this time of year when we start getting these beautiful colors and the weather starts warming up, we also look at our home and we get— we turn around and we see what kinds of projects we can do. Paint is an easy project to enhance your house by changing out a color, but it's also an easy project to refresh your house. So maybe you have an existing color and you just want to repaint the same color because you love it so much and you want to paint it. Both projects are really easy to do. You can either hire out for this project, especially if you want to paint your entire house, And I'm talking about the inside, but some homes also get painted on the outside. Or you can do it yourself and either paint room by room, take your time, decide to make it a weekend project and paint the whole house. But spring is a really good time because the weather is good for paint. If it gets too humid, the paint may not adhere very well. And if it's too hot, it takes longer for it to dry. And you can open up your windows to get rid of the fumes. And when it's too hot, that becomes difficult. So I also wanna talk to you about how you can use HomeZada to track your paint colors. And this seems to be a favorite part of HomeZada for a lot of our users. But in particular, I did not realize how valuable this was Until I had to experience it. So I have a lot of different paint colors in my house because I believe living in color is spectacular. And this is actually a paint can from one of the rooms in my house. I actually have this color in two of my bedrooms upstairs, and it's what we refer to as a Kelly Moore flat paint, and it's a Cape Hatteras. And as you can see on this paint can. There is a label. The label indicates what the name of the paint is. It has a number on the paint, and Cape Hatteras is KM548— no, excuse me, 542-L. Make sure you double-check that if you want to participate in this. It's a beautiful, light, refreshing yellow, and I think yellow is just an amazing color. It's very happy. It also is a color that I love because it also sparks creativity. And I just think creativity is amazing. Um, Kelly Moore is not sponsoring this at all, but I did want to let you know that this just happens to be the paint that I had in my house many, many years ago, and I've so fallen in love with it that I wanted to refresh it. So, um, I decided to make my project a big project, and I hired, um, some painters to come in and paint a lot of my house. And I have, um, a decent-sized house, so I just knew that I needed help in order to get that done. And my painters were amazing, by the way. They were so skilled. But you will also notice that I have written here, it says— I know it says backwards, but it's upstairs bedrooms in sloppy handwriting. There's just enough in here to touch up paint. Okay. And it's not enough to paint a whole room. So So I keep this for a little while in my garage and I store it with this little label, but I oftentimes eliminate these paints after a period of time because they get nasty and some of them I think get even moldy. So I remove them from my house and I dispose of them at my waste management organization and they dispose of them properly because that's another thing— do not put these down your sink. Do not put these down your drains. It's really important that you dispose of paint properly, and it's best to take it to your disposal place. But to go back to what I was talking about when it comes to HomeZada and how it can track your paints, in each space of the home inventory section of HomeZada, you have an opportunity to put the size of your rooms if you choose. The name of your room. So in this case, it would be spare bedroom upstairs. And you can put the paint color. A lot of people surprisingly think that this is maybe a nuisance, or why would I do that? Well, I can tell you, I did not have these paints in my house probably up until this past year. When I had this project done, I didn't have any paint in my house. It was just—it was gone. So I wanted to refresh my paint because I love it. I love that colors in my house, and I didn't want to have to hunt, and I didn't want to have to search, and I didn't want to have to re-measure and re-retest and reconfigure a paint color to match what already exists, especially if the company like Kelly Moore already has it. I wanted to be as efficient as possible to make sure that I can make the necessary updates to my rooms in my home. So I had coincidentally stored all of my paint colors and names and brands inside HomeZada on that space page, and I wrote on there Kelly Moore Paints KM542-L, which KM stands for Kelly Moore. I wrote the name Kay Pateras and I wrote flat, and it was really simple. And I did that for each space in my home. I even have trim colors in there if I need it. So if it's a particular white— and we all know that there is 500 colors of white, so be careful when you want to do touch-ups that a pure white may not be like a snow cream white or Whatever color you're looking for, but it has come so in handy. So when I needed to do that project for my home, it was really easy for me to get my painters all the colors as quickly as possible, the size of the room so that they can actually measure the quantity of paint they needed, and to come in and basically execute on everything. Absolutely amazing. If you were considering. a paint project this year, my suggestion is that you document it in HomeZada because eventually these paint cans also get paint drags on them because paint is just messy. And so eventually this little label will get covered, and having this little sign where it says upstairs bedroom I believe that my husband doesn't even know how to read this handwriting because it's so messy. So when I go into HomeZada, I make it really simple. I go into each space, I have the paint colors right there, and my life is easy. I can't get over it. And we find that a lot of our users love that aspect of HomeZada. So when you're considering projects this year, paint is a really easy one to tackle. You can do it yourself. You can do it room by room. You can hire someone. You can do the whole house at once. It is really, really affordable to add paint, to change paint, to make a room look fresh. And when you are finished your project, make sure you put your colors inside HomeZada so that when you come back and need to do touch-ups— and this can Or any other can that you have is no longer in your house, you can actually go access HomeZada and you already know your paint colors. And what's so brilliant about that is if you have to do touch-ups, the paint's already there. All you have to do is call the company. So thank you for joining me today. I hope this was informative. If you want to know special information about HomeZada, if you have specific questions that you'd like to have answered for you, please let me know and I will work with my team to get those questions answered. I will create more videos for you. We will also create blog posts for you so that you have this information at the tip of your fingers. I look forward to the next video.
