In this short instructional video, HomeZada co‑founder Beth Dodson addresses user confusion about the term “property” as used in the HomeZada platform. She explains that, unlike the broader real‑estate meaning (e.g., office buildings), HomeZada defines a property as any location that holds items a user wants to document. This includes a primary residence, secondary or vacation homes, in‑laws’ or parents’ homes, garages, storage units, undeveloped land, and rental units—even structures without a finished home. The purpose of this definition is to help users track where their owned items are stored, facilitating inventory management and insurance documentation. Dodson invites viewers to leave comments with suggestions or further questions, promising to create more videos to address user concerns.

Hi, this is Beth Dodson, co-founder of HomeZada. I've been getting a lot of questions lately from some existing users as well as some prospective users, and I think there's been a few— a little bit of confusion as to some of the definitions that we use in our HomeZada product. So I wanted to clarify some of these, these types of scenarios, and so I'm going to be creating some of these videos for you guys to understand and review and take a look at what we're talking about. So today's question is, what is the definition of a property? And there's a lot of definitions of the property. A lot of our clients were thinking, if it's a property, that means it's an office building where companies go and they have their meetings and they have their staff. That is not what we define as a property. A property in our vernacular is your home. It's a second home. It's a vacation home. It may even be your in-laws' home or your parents' homes because you want to help take care of them. It may be Um, a garage, so you have a second garage, or a storage unit that you have off property. It may even be a piece of property that you've purchased, meaning land, but you haven't had a structure on it just yet. Or maybe it's a piece of property with some structures, but it doesn't have a home just yet because you haven't built it yet. It could be a garage over a garage, a separate garage in your house, or even a rental unit over a garage that isn't necessarily attached to your house. It could even be, like I said, storage units. So maybe you have a storage unit, or maybe you have a different property somewhere else. But the definition of property is anything that has items that you own that you want to document for purposes to make sure you know where these items are, and in case anything ever happens. So that's our definition of a property. And if you think you have some other suggestions of what you think a property is, please leave the notes in the notes field, in the comments field. And then let us know if you have any other comments as regards to this or would like to see any specific questions answered by myself or my co-founders, and we will make sure we get that done as quickly as possible. Have a great day, and we hope this has helped you understand our definition of what a property is.
