A competitor recalls crying over every loss, from the Jets and Mets to personal defeats, and feeling like an idiot when things went wrong. That obsessive need to win, once shameful, became the fuel for everything they built.
One thing about me is I cried. I hated to lose. And anytime I did or any team I supported lost, I cried. As a Jets fan then, as a Mets fan still currently, I cried a lot. A lot of losses. When I lost in any sport I played, I cried. I was completely obsessed, psychotic, and passionate about winning. And when I didn't, I was an idiot, crybaby, whatever. But it was discouraged and it was something that was frowned upon.
