ELDOA Stretching? Why ELDOA is not a stretch, but an exercise. Get this and your body will love ya!

Akima, a SOMA trainer at Soul Core Fitness, explains that ELDOA is a strengthening exercise, not a stretch. Unlike yoga, it works muscles at extreme range where actin and myosin fibers separate, building strength through controlled tension rather than relaxation.

I'll go through and teach you and show you how you can address your body through a holistic manner through strengthening, stretching, nutrition and goal setting and mindset. Hi, I'm Akima so I'm the owner of Soul Core Fitness. I'm a SOMA trainer and a SOMA therapist and I want you to watch this video so I can help explain to you. While DOA is a great strengthening exercise to incorporate into your life. So the main reason that Aldoa stretching is a strengthening exercise is a biomechanical rule. It's by Borrelli. So he went out and did some tests and found that there's five ranges of motion that your muscles can go through. I'll give you an example. With my bicep and my elbow, you can do total range all the way up, all the way down. You can do external range, the very starting, you can do internal range, the very ending and you can do middle, the middle range. The fifth is called extreme range. It's when you're trying to pull your muscle fibers, your actin, your myosin away from each other constantly. So there's a lot of effort involved. It doesn't look like you're doing a lot, but I can tell you from personal professional experience it is very challenging to constantly pull these two things away from each other. Did you know that Aldoa was a strengthening exercise and not a stretching exercise? If you did just put a little yes below. I think people get confused because they first and foremost trying to relate it to something because it's a, I guess a fairly new technique here in the States. It's been around since the states 70s, but it's confusing to think, okay, what is it? So they try and relate to something. I know yoga is the first thing that people relate it to and yoga is always associated with stretching, but it's absolutely nothing like yoga. So in that case it's not like stretching. Another point of confusion is that there is space being developed. So I'm going through extreme range and I'm Pulling those actin and myosin. I forgot which way I did it, but I'm trying to do. I'm developing some space. Well, that kind of looks like lengthening, right? But it's not lengthening, as you now know. It's an extreme range working, producing all those strengthening benefits. Something to watch out for is that if you think about it as stretching, it kind of conjures your mind, pampering, relaxation. And it is nothing like that. So I don't want you to go into an eldoa thinking you're going to get that, because you're going to get into the first position and you're going to want to quit right away because you're going to think something's wrong. Let's go through an example. Okay, so we'll take the back because Aldo is used a lot for the spine. So we can talk about Aldoa for the spine, because that's in the back. Okay. And we'll take a myofascial stretch for one of the back muscles, the longissimus. I kind of just walk you through. You can do this with me. Walk you through how? It's a little bit different. So we'll go through this stretch first. So I want to stretch one of my back muscles. My longissimus big one goes up and down. I would plant my feet down, I reach my arms through. I would tuck my chin around my back, and I would push. So what I'm trying to do, imagine from basically the top of my hips to my neck, I'm trying to pull those two ends away from each other. And then I help that stretch by pushing my arms forward, which pull the fascial attachment to it, and I lock my legs down, which pull the fascia attachment down to my legs. So in essence, I'm focusing on longissimus pulling my from the top of my hips to my head away and helping the rest of the attachment and pulling away. So my feet and my arms go in two different directions and I stretch. There's no local extreme range happening at this time. But now, if you want to sit and do this with me, if I sit down and plant my feet down and grab my knees, and I take my spine into extreme range, which means I push my butt down, I lift my ribs off my hips, I push my chest out to the ceiling. I pull my head to the ceiling. Now, even in this position, with support with your hands or your knees, you can feel how that tension is developing in the back. Well, that tension is that range of motion, that extreme range right so you feel the muscle fibers in the tissue going through that extreme range. So hopefully right now you have a better idea on why Aldoa stretching is not stretching but an exercise and why this exercise is so beneficial for your body. So so the best thing you can do right now is to go ahead and try it. So I put together a pre recorded little short safe Aldoa class you can do on your own at any time. I'll put the link in the description below. You can go safely. Sign up don't forget to watch the rest of these Eldoa videos. If you like this video, please give me a like.
