In this instructional YouTube video, Akim Asao (owner of Soul Core Fitness) explains why a healthy spine is essential for pain relief, good posture, and longevity, and outlines what actions to take to maintain spinal health. He debunks the common misconception that the spine is a rigid "column" and introduces the Delmus Index, which quantifies spinal health based on three optimal curves. A quick self‑assessment (wall/head/hand test) is demonstrated to gauge the integrity of these curves. Asao emphasizes that the spine’s stability depends on the coordinated strength and flexibility of the shoulder girdle, pelvic girdle, and surrounding core muscles. He recommends a progressive, periodized training program—starting from the individual’s current level and advancing systematically—to build strength and flexibility without overwhelm. Viewers are urged to seek a professional assessment and are offered a free video‑email series titled “How to Advance Plastic Roadblocks in Your Body,” which expands on common workout roadblocks and provides further guidance. The video concludes with calls to like, subscribe, and share, and points to additional related videos for deeper learning.

I am the owner of Soul Core Fitness and I have degrees as a summer trainer and summer therapist. And it's my ultimate goal to help you do and be more through a well rounded, proper health and fitness program. All right, Spinal health and wellness for pain relief and sustainability. Let's get some information out of the way. Okay, first, your spine is not a column as the name spinal column would suggest. If your spine was a column and stacked upon each other, you would lead a terrible life. Possibly you also wouldn't be alive. The second thing to look at is that your spine can be measured if it's healthy. You can use a test called Delmus Index. Delmus Index says that you need to have at least three healthy curves and those curves need not be too flat and straight, are too wavy and curvy. I'll give you an example. So if I have three healthy curves in my spine, well, that gives me through calculation, the number 10. Okay, that's a strong healthy spine. That's what you want. If I lose one of those curves through the equation, that number goes down to five. That means if I lose one curve in my spine, my entire spine is now half as strong. So a quick way to check this is to stand against the wall. If you stand with your back against the wall with the heels touching the wall and put your head back on the wall, if you can, then you should be able to take your hand and stick it behind your back and have just enough space for it. It shouldn't be difficult to it and you shouldn't end up on the other side. You can always do this with your neck. Same thing if your head is difficult to get back onto the wall, then you have difficulty with that spine, the cervical spine. And if your neck is flat and your hands start to rub against your neck, you also know that you're starting to lose that curve of the cervical spine. Have you been thinking about your spinal health and wellness like this? If so, just give me a yes below. If not, give me a no. As I mentioned before, your spine is not a column. What it is, it's a structure that's supported by your shoulder girdle and your pelvic girdle and then all the muscles in your back, in your abs, in your shoulder girdle and your pelvic girdle. All those muscles need to work together, be strong enough, be flexible enough, so they can help manage the spine. Managed spine means two things. It means that it's stable, that it stays in place. You don't start to lose those curves or accentuate the curves, and that it's strong enough to perform activities in every day. You should be able to roll yourself off the ground, bend over and pick something up. But all those muscles need to work together and function to kind of pull you around. Don't worry, it's only a couple hundred exercises. It's a small joke. Don't get overwhelmed. Okay? You need to start where you're at. The best way to do this is through a progressive periodicized program. That simply means you start where you're at and you do what you can, but then you have somewhere to go with it, right? It doesn't stay the same or doesn't just do a little bit, then all of a sudden go do whatever you want or just stop working out. So what can you do and where can you start? Well, the best thing to do is to start with an assessment so you come to qualified professional that knows how to assess people and how to prescribe exercises and stretches relative to that assessment and to the goals. You can also sign up for our video and email series which is titled how to Advance Plastic Roadblocks in youn Body.
