10 Aug 2022 · 12 min
Emma Naylor (host) delivers a candid, motivational monologue encouraging listeners—particularly ambitious entrepreneurs and career-changers—to give themselves permission to be vulnerable and show up authentically. She reads a journal excerpt reminding herself that mistakes, anxiety, and rejection are allowed; describes stepping back from constant production to focus on alignment; and urges listeners to take aligned action despite fear of judgment or algorithmic expectations. The episode closes with practical calls-to-action (DMs, subscribe, leave a review).

Hello and welcome back to youo can have it all, the podcast. I'm so excited to be recording this episode. It has been a while since I've recorded one and I really wanted to jump on here and give you a little update on where I was at. Just share some vulnerability, share some honesty and, and just as always, be super real with you on the journey of having it all. So I wanted to start by saying, wow, the last few months have been crazy. Have been crazy in a good way. Busy with things in the background and growing things and rebirthing and new projects and new things happening. And I've really allowed myself for the first time time in a while to step back and put things on pause that I've needed to put on pause. When I first started out in this journey of sort of self discovery, self development, and then moving into coaching, I constantly felt like I had to be doing all of the time. I felt like I had to constantly be chasing the next thing and releasing another podcast episode and recording another reel because that's what the industry had told me I should be doing. In the last few months, I've really been taking a step back and focusing on the bigger picture and the things that I actually need to be focusing on. And that feels super aligned and really putting pause on the things that I don't need to be focusing on right now. And it really got me to thinking when I was doing some reflection and journaling earlier this week that I'm very good at overdoing and I'm not good at stopping. So the last few months I've really been able to take a pause and take a step back and just not constantly feel like I have to be showing up. Has my business suffered? No, it hasn't. Has my well being suffered? No. In fact, I felt a hundred times better. But that isn't without the little voice in my head telling me that that I should constantly be doing more and more and more. I wanted to read something from a journal that I wrote back in February. I remember writing this piece of journal and I was in a very stressed place in my business, in my personal life, things were feeling very stuck, things were feeling stagnant And I, I really just wanted to read this out because this girl reading this is very different to the girl sat here today. And so I'm going to start by reading it. And it says to Emma, you are allowed to have bad days. You are allowed to try things that don't always work out how you expected. You're allowed to cry. You are allowed to feel anxious. You are allowed to feel triggered by people, even if you or they are projecting. You are allowed to make mistakes and learn what you would do differently. You are human. You don't always have to be strong. You don't have to be accepted by everyone. Fuck it. You don't have to be accepted by anyone. You are authentically you, honest, hard working, loving, kind, driven, motivated, beautiful and amazing. I love you. Love Emma. And I was reflecting on that earlier today and all of that still stands. I'm allowed to have days where things don't feel good. I'm allowed to have days where I feel like everything is great and everything is aligned and I don't have to be worried about what's going to happen. And the reason I wanted to share this is because the funk that I was in, that actually I'm only really just getting out of, has really allowed me to rebirth into this new energy and these new ideas and these new goals. And I used to spend so much time trying to push what was going on back. I didn't want to accept that things weren't always going to be sunshine and rainbows, but there was a rainbow waiting at the end. But I didn't want to go through the thunderstorm and wait till the sunshine came out, till the rainbow. I just wanted to be at the end goal. And actually what I've realized over the last few months is this journey is not linear. This journey is full of ups and downs and bumps in the road. And the reason I really, really felt called to share this today, and I'm sure a lot of you listening will probably feel the same, is what we're seeing on social media, the way that the algorithms and what we should be posting and what we're told to be posting and whatever it is, does not feel authentic to everyone. It doesn't feel genuine, it doesn't feel real. And therefore there's a lot of friction going on where people are saying, I want to show up as me, but certain things are not accepted or the algorithm doesn't love it, or whatever it is that's stopping you from doing that. And I really, really want to invite you if you are in that place to be authentically you and do the things that feel scare you and do the things that make you think, should I be doing this? And doing the things that you never thought possible that absolutely scare the living hell out of you. Because when you're feeling like that, you know you're doing something right. And I talk about this a lot with sitting in that comfort and taking aligned action and moving. And it is also true that we're so conditioned a lot of the time to feel like we need to do things or not do things. That I'm really inviting everyone who's listening to that and anyone that comes across this to step into that next level and just say it. This is what I'm going to do. And as I wrote to myself in my journal, you don't have to be accepted by everyone. And fck it, you don't have to be accepted by anyone. As long as you are happy with what you're doing, your authenticity shines through. And this is really for the business owners or the people that are wanting to start that business. You need to do what's right for you and how you want to show up. Not what you think other people want you to do or what you should be doing. And I spent quite a few months at the beginning of my business doing something and serving clients in a way that I thought I should be, rather than actually doing what was right for me and what I knew I was good at. And as soon as I pivoted that and started showing up authentically, was it scary? Yes. Was I worried that people were going to judge me? Absolutely. But it transformed my business and it transformed my life and the way that I work because it allows me every day to show up authentically in alignment. And it's not going to land with everyone. It's not going to land with everyone. And that's fine because I need it not to land with everyone, but I need it to hit the right people who go, yes, that's what I believe. This is why it's important. And I'm so glad that Emma showed up that way. And when you are authentic, you are going to trigger the shit out of people. When you are calling things out that people don't want to hear, you are going to be triggering that. And that's okay. Because if you're coming from a place of authenticity and honesty, that's your truth and that's what you need to be doing. And when I first started coaching, I remember there were people that it triggered. People were trying to talk me out of what I was doing, because they did. They were scared for me. They were saying, well, what if it doesn't work? And what's this? And this doesn't sound legit. And actually, a lot of it was their stuff. I knew authentically this is what I was meant to be doing. This is where I was meant to be standing. But I did for a long time allow the fear of others and the fear of rejection and the fear of comparison and the fear of what other people would say stop me and keep me playing small. The reason I wanted to share this is because I know that there is someone out there listening to this right now, wanting to start their business with, wanting to make a change in their career, wanting to start their side hustle. But they're so petrified of thinking they need to be strong and thinking that it's all going to be rainbows and sunshines. And if it's not that they failed many business owners or many people shifting careers or growing any level of growth, whether it be personal career relationships, it's painful and it's uncomfortable. And that's why so many people stay stuck. So if you're feeling stuck, I invite you to sit down, take a step back, and understand what is it that you truly, truly want? What is it that you've been doing that doesn't feel aligned but you think you should be doing it because others are telling you that you should be doing that? What can you start saying no to today that isn't aligned with you? And what things can you start doing and saying yes to today that are super, super aligned with you? And I want to leave you with this last sort of thought that I've had. Imagine if all of us started showing up as our authentic selves, free from fear of judgment, free from worry about failure, not judging others, not projecting our stuff onto them. I believe that the world would be such a different place now. The best place to start is within ourselves. We often try and change others around us and get them to accept what we're doing and get them to believe in our passions and our projects. We often can't do that. We often cannot change what other people are thinking. But what we can do is not allow that to stop us from doing the things that we want to do anyway. So if you're sat there, take this in, allow yourself that time, understand what needs to be done, stop getting in your own way and just fucking go for it. I really hope that you got some wisdom out of that. I just really felt called to share that. And as usual, my DMs are always open for anyone.
