A short YouTube monologue (Feb 2025) explaining that people can sense lingering "chemo signals" left in rooms by prior occupants, and that these chemical cues can bypass conscious thought via the olfactory system to trigger the limbic system, influencing emotions and behavior. The speaker uses this to argue that environments and the people we surround ourselves with materially affect our mood and actions.
If you've ever walked into a room and immediately felt like the vibes were off. There is actually science behind this. There is something called chemo signals that get left behind in a room after people leave. And we as humans can sense them. And these chemo signals can linger in a place for an indefinite period of time. They've done research on this too where they had people go into a room and these people would end up feeling either anxious or joyful depending on the emotions that the people prior had left behind. And this can directly impact us because the way that our olfactory system works is that when we sense these chemo signals, then they can directly bypass conscious thought and trigger the limbic system. And the limbic system is important for emotions, memory and instinctive behavior so we can be triggered to start acting or feeling some type of way that we are not even conscious of. This is just another reason why our environment and the people we surround ourselves with is extremely important.
