What I Eat in a Day | Neuroscientist Emonthebrain

A first-person YouTube video in which the speaker (neuroscientist/creator) describes a daily diet and supplement routine aimed at optimizing brain health and mental clarity. Key elements: avoidance of gluten and dairy due to a self-reported gluten allergy; an elimination-diet recommendation; morning ritual of water and a cycle-support supplement, B-vitamin/ginseng (Ting), exercise, and a savory breakfast to prevent morning glucose spikes; caffeinated matcha + cacao with adaptogens (Brain Dust or alternatives) for calm focus; low-sugar snacks (apple + nut butter, cashews, protein smoothies), rotating dinners built from protein + complex carbs + vegetables, and evening magnesium + L-theanine for sleep. The video mixes personal testimony, product endorsements (affiliate links noted), and brief explanations of physiological mechanisms (acetylcholine, HPA axis, blood glucose effects).
Hey guys. I'm a little tired today, but we're still showing up. We're still gonna do it today. We are talking about what I eat in a day for brain health. Someone left a comment on the last video and I thought this was a good one. I have all my supplements and stuff right here because I couldn't talk about what I eat in a day without talking about all the things that I take. Because honestly, I feel like it's just as important as the food to me at this point, so. So I would also like to preface this video by saying I do not eat gluten or dairy. I have a gluten allergy. I get rashes. I actually ate some cake the other day and like, you can see how it's. Yeah, so I really don't eat gluten, like ever. That was like a one time thing. But. So I don't eat gluten and I don't eat dairy. Both are inflammatory, at least for me. If you have any sort of gluten allergy, it's inflammatory. And inflammation in the brain is not good for mental health or focus, clarity, attention, memory. So I avoid inflammatory foods and that includes deep fried foods. But also one more thing. If you haven't tried an elimination diet, I highly recommend doing that where you just cut out gluten or you cut out dairy or you cut out eggs because there's a lot of foods that are people are commonly allergic to. I actually just learned recently that a lot of people are allergic to a compound in egg whites. And you wouldn't know unless you did an elimination diet or you had one of those like tests done on your back. I've never had the test done. I just chose to eliminate things from my diet and found out I was allergic to gluten that way. So without further ado, when I will just go in order, like throughout the day. So when I wake up in the morning, before I eat anything, I drink water and I drink my soothe, which for my girly pops that have a cycle. This stuff is so incredible. I used to have such bad PMS and cramps and when I tell you I started putting this in my water and I just straight up don't get cramps anymore. I don't, you know, maybe the day before I start my period I'll be a little like a little more sad than usual. But this stuff, seriously, like, I used to have such bad cramps that I wouldn't go to school and now it's. I seriously don't have them at all. So girls, this stuff is amazing for your cycle. I highly, highly, highly recommend. And also I've been taking this for over a year and I'm now friends with the wonderful woman who it owns this company and started this company and I'm a partner with this company now. So you can get a discount with my code. I'll put it in the caption in the notes below. So I take this every morning before I eat anything. And then also this. It's Ting by Moon Juice. It's a B vitamin complex. And ginseng. B complex is amazing for energy as well as ginseng. Ginseng is also known to enhance cognition through its effect on acetylcholine. And acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter in the brain that's really important for working memory and it helps with brain fog, which is not a scientific term, but it gives you clarity. So two amazing things. Also, ginseng is an adaptogen, so it helps the body maintain homeostasis through the its effect on the HPA axis. And the HPA axis is the body's main stress response system. So started my day off happy, balanced, all of that. And then I will work out and then I will eat some breakfast. So what I eat for breakfast is a savory breakfast. And glucose goddess on Instagram, she preaches about a savory breakfast. And that's because I don't want to spike my blood, my glucose, first thing in the morning, because breakfast literally means breaking a fast. And so you don't want to break your fast by spiking your glucose. So I start with a savory breakfast. I usually have eggs and I'll cook like some, some kale and tomatoes and some sort of protein, which is eggs or some other breakfast protein. But I try to stay away from processed, highly processed meats or anything like that. So that's how I start my morning. And then I'll go into my caffeine in the morning is usually a combo of matcha and cacao and I'll put cinnamon in there. Matcha has caffeine and L Theanine. I preach this all the time. L Theanine is amazing for focus. It boosts alpha waves in the brain which help maintain a more calm, relaxed state. And then the caffeine obviously boosts energy, so it's more of like a calm focus energy. And then I put cacao in the matcha as well. Cacao is absolutely amazing. It boosts dopamine, serotonin, endorphins. It's Amazing for stress. It's amazing for your heart health. It also helps regulate blood flow and boost blood flow through the brain. And that's just going to be amazing for focus and productivity as well. And then I put my brain dust in there. Brain dust has adaptogens for focus. I think I talked about it in my last video, but it has lion's mane, ashwagandha, ginkgo, rhodiola. Rhodiola is my favorite adaptogen of all time. It increases dopamine, increases the activity of dopamine, serotonin. Brain dust is absolutely amazing. Sometimes if I don't want to take brain dust, I do the super you, which is like a capsule. And it also has rhodiola, ashwagandha, amla, shatavari. So it's a little bit different than the brain dust. It just kind of is. Depending on what I'm feeling. I like to switch it up just so that my body doesn't get used to one or the other. But they're both from Moon Juice and I'll link them in the caption. And then later in the day, as a snack, I'll usually have an apple with peanut butter, and it's organic peanut butter, no sugar added. I really try to stay low carb, low sugar, and that's because I want to regulate my. I want to maintain homeostasis with my blood sugar. And there are so many reasons for this. If you really want to learn more about blood sugar and why it's so important, really highly recommend following Glucose Goddess on Instagram. She's amazing and she will tell you all the reasons why you want to regulate your blood sugar. Okay. Part of that is one of those is aging and wrinkles. Glucose spikes increase aging, speed up aging. If the brain health thing isn't motivation enough, too much sugar and glucose increases aging. So. All right, so another snack that I'll have sometimes is cashews. I absolutely love cashews. Cashews have a lot of magnesium in them and they also have good, healthy fats and protein and fiber. And another thing that I really like for a snack is I will make a protein smoothies. Look at my. My smoothies are really stacked. My protein has probiotics in it as well. And I really love my protein that I take. And it's like the garden of life protein. So it's a vegan protein and I get the chocolate flavor, but so then I'll put that and I'll put fruit, and then I'll put kale, and I'll put Avocado, because avocado makes it creamy, kind of like how bananas make a smoothie creamy. But bananas are the. Are the candy bar of the fruits because they have so much sugar in them. And. And like I said, I don't like having too much sugar. Plus I'm already putting berries, and berries are really good for your br as well. So I stick with that. And then sometimes I'll even add cacao in my smoothie as well, because I love cacao and there's no such thing as too much. I also really like almond butter for a snack with. With an apple if I'm not feeling peanut butter. And I also have these bars as well. I've been really into these bars called Keto Crisps. I think they're really good. There's lots of different flavors, but yeah, I just like to switch it up and have a rotation. There's also this cereal that I really like, and it's keto too. I really like keto snacks just because I'm, like I said, trying to regulate my blood glucose. And then finally, for dinner, for dinner, I switch it up. I never eat the same thing. I usually don't eat the same thing for lunch either. It's like a combination of some sort of snack. Also, my breakfast is really late, so my lunch is really just a snack. And then my dinner is different all the time, but it's always comprised of the same thing. So protein, a healthy, complex carb, which, for example, sweet potatoes are a healthy, complex carb. And then I have veggies as well, because veggies are so important. I usually try to put veggies with my breakfast too. So sometimes I'll eat tacos for dinner, sometimes the salad. Sometimes I make this veggie, veggie stir fry with protein added in, like shrimp or something. Or I make this bomb tikka masala using this sauce that I get from sprouts, I think. And they also have it at this one store here. It's like Fresh Market or something. Really good. Obviously, I don't like to eat the same thing because then that gets tiring. But what's really important is not that you copy what I eat, but really what's important is avoiding deep fried foods, avoiding highly processed foods, and avoiding super sugary drinks. I don't consume soda. I don't drink soda. I don't drink juice. Juice has a lot of sugar in it too. So I avoid super sugary drinks and I avoid super sugary foods. If I ever want to have a dessert, I usually opt for Berries. I will have like a yogurt parfait or something. I don't eat cake like I did when I got this rash. That was. My best friend had this cake, this whole cake he had me buy him and I decided to try some. So really what's important is just avoiding spiking your glucose and avoiding deep fried foods. I don't drink alcohol often. There are no benefits, health benefits to alcohol. But you know, life is short and it is meant to be enjoyed so and experienced. So just knowing that it's not a health food, it is a pleasure food. Just like dessert, right? Like when I ate that cake with my friend and oh, one last thing, one last thing that I almost forgot. So before I go to sleep, I drink magnesium by Moon Juice. It's. You don't have to get the moon juice one, but it's magnesium and L Theanine in combination. So magnesium is a muscle relaxant and it also really helps with sleep. And L theanine boost alpha waves in the brain like I said earlier, which is really relaxing and calming. So those two things in combination are really great for sleep. So I drink that for sleep as well at night. I think that's all I have for today. I try not to be too extra with this. I don't want to overwhelm anyone. Another thing is I usually try to eat fish or have some sort of fish oil or fish in my meals once a day. Like if I'm not eating fish, then I'll consume a fish oil. And that's because fish oil is really good for decreasing inflammation. If you don't like fish oil or fish, then omega 3s are a really good supplement option to take. But yeah, it's really not that complicated. Don't overcomplicate it. A lot of people like to say, say certain diets are the best. But I think really just regulating your blood sugar and staying away from super processed or super fried foods and oily greasy foods is good. And also listen to your body. I was mentioning in the beginning, elimination diets are a really good way to tune into your body and see what your body likes and doesn't like. But also like, be mindful when you're eating and ask your body and ask yourself, how did this meal make me feel? And even keep a journal. I know a lot of people say, like, I keep a journal of how I feel after I eat. And whenever I was going through the time when I didn't know why my stomach was always hurting, I would write down like, what did I eat? And how do I feel? And that can help establish patterns and help you realize, like, where there are patterns and maybe what foods you want to cut out. But really, it's all nutrition is so individualized and it's so based on your specific needs. As long as you're consuming, consuming protein with every meal and vegetables and fruits and whole foods and eating organic where you can if possible, that is really what's important. So I hope this helped you. Please leave a comment about any questions that you have. I would love to answer them in another video. And I hope that your week is going amazing and continues to go amazing. And I love you so much. Peace and love. Until next time.
