48 hours alone in san francisco | traveling solo, china town, meeting strangers

A solo travel vlog by Eunice Lai documenting 48 hours alone in San Francisco. The speaker explores San Franciscos Chinatown (claims it's the largest outside Asia), samples local foods (siu mai, fried sesame ball), reflects on homesickness and cultural connections, and walks toward the North Hill/Fishermans Wharf area while sharing candid on-camera banter.
Don't wanna be a one man woman.
Good morning. So I just left my hotel. This is my first time solo traveling in US City. So it's gonna be interesting. And I don't know so far first impressions is pretty similar to New York, so I think we'll be fixing my stride.
Always prepared. You never know who shows up around the corner. Maybe it's.
I started off my trip visiting the biggest Chinatown outside of Asia. Against popular beliefs, fortune cookies were said to be invented by Japanese immigrants in California. So they actually have nothing to do with Chinese food. Despite this, I wrote myself a fortune wishing that my passions and dreams could become my full time job. Walking around these streets and listening to the language I grew up around really made me miss home. This is the biggest piece of si mai I've ever seen. Because in Hong Kong it's actually like really small. But we'll try. We'll try. This monster tastes like real sumar. It's not like the fake frozen ones like shrimp in skin. This is a jin buoy. So it's like a fried ball of sesame, I guess. The sun is starting to come out, so I'm gonna walk down to North Hill Fisherman Wharf area. I think I realized that my favorite thing about solo traveling is that I get to walk everywhere. And I really mean everywhere.
Mr. Director.
This is a good workout to burn off the sea lion hot dog I had earlier.
Hey, Mr. Director, anything, anything for you. I can sing, I can dance, I can sing, I can dance, I can learn the smoke moves. I will do anything you ask me to do. Jump out on the stage, get locked up in a cage direct.
The sun finally came out as I made my way towards Pier 39, also known as the Fisherman's Wharf. I also finally got to visit the famous lefty stores. Khadija, if you made it this far in my vlog, shout out to you for buying me that notebook. Ten years ago, I decided to go check out the thrift stores in San Francisco. The selection here was actually pretty good, but I just didn't really know what I was looking for, which made it really difficult. Currently back in my hotel room, getting ready for a time left dinner. So it's like one of those dinner things that's going on on Instagram where you sign up to eat dinner with five strangers. Wow. I said dinner so many times in that sense. But I'm kind of nervous because I feel like I'm gonna be one of the youngest ones there and I'm kind of scared that I have nothing to offer to the group. But I think it'll be like a fun, cool experience to try because I don't know, like, I am so big on building community, meeting new people, and I'm finally doing something that does just that. So I'm gonna go. So I just came back from my time left dinner. It was pretty fun. I think after we went out to eat, we went to the bar and we just continued our conversation. But it's a really cool experiment of just meeting strangers. Three people didn't show up, though, which is a little bit disappointing because I think it would be a lot more fun the more people there are. I would totally do it again in the city, like New York. I really wonder what it's like out there because apparently SF isn't very social in terms of meeting people. But yeah, that's it for tonight. I'm just gonna go to bed and hopefully I'll wake up for tomorrow. I just finished my work call and I'm just gonna go check out now and grab my film camera because it's a beautiful sunny day in San Franc and I want plenty of photos. I reached the end of Hyde Park, I think Hyde street, and now I'm gonna go for lunch because I'm hungry. I found the cutest Italian restaurant. Look at how cute the plates are. I think we're slightly weirded out that I'm here by myself and I kind of ordered a lot. Not really. I. There was like really good health hour prices. But I'm so excited, honestly. There's something really empowering about eating alone. I don't know why we don't do it more often. I really cannot emphasize how beautiful this day was. The sky was so blue with not a single cloud in the sky. And the air was so crisp. The smell to it. And it's. And it's so nice. Smell of the ocean. There is a smell to it. Like the people here don't. Don't feel it because they smell it every day. But fresh out of the east coast, the things we did for photos. So pretty. We had to abandon our lives at the bottom of the hill because it's so slanted. Yeah, I know Flower street, but all the flowers are de. Yeah, we've done it. Experienced driver. So apparently the cables are stuck or something, so we're kind of struck. Can you rev your engine? And that's the end of my first solo travel trip in San Francisco. Bye.
