a friday night in, part 2

Eunice Lai documents a night of rest after weeks of burnout, cleaning her room and spending time with roommates. She argues that constant productivity kills creativity and that downtime needs to be scheduled like work. The night ends with a movie and a simple breakfast that leaves her feeling human again.

Here. And I am so burnt out. I don't know if you guys have seen my Friday Night Alone video I posted a year ago, but my life has completely changed from doing nothing. I am doing absolutely everything. My schedule is more colored than white, which is really concerning. And. And I'm. I'm just tired. I just started off my Friday night cleaning my room. I haven't made my bed for an entire week because I've been in and out the whole time. We were plagued by the productivity culture, but sometimes doing nothing is exactly what you need to recharge our batteries. I really hope you love me too. Yeah, I really hope you love me too. This is actually our first time getting dinner as roommates. I think it's really important to live with people you are comfortable with and doesn't drain your energy, especially when you're already feeling low. With these two, I never feel like I need to muster up the energy to engage with them. And in fact, it actually recharges me. Just got back from dinner. I'm so full. And you know what they say. Too much of a good thing becomes a bad thing. And like this food, that's the same with productivity. Like too much productivity actually leads you to be unproductive. Because when you start scheduling things back to back, you have no time in between and you start becoming fatigued. And everything you once enjoyed doing just becomes a chore to you just because you're way too tired to do it. And I really do love editing videos, but sometimes it feels like a chore now because I just don't have free time. So I'm just constantly working on something. And something that was once therapeutic now feels like an obligation. Anyways, I'm editing a video. I feel well rested from my day today, so I've tried everything. What I'm trying to say is over productivity leads to burnout, which kills creativity. When I don't leave time to myself to just exist, I can't come up with new ideas for new videos. I can't let my mind go wild and dream up with the crazy next project I want to do. I don't have time to physically execute what I want to do. It just diminishes you. I started off my session editing a video I was paid to do, but I transitioned to a video that I love to do because I reminded myself that this night is for me. I'm gonna go shower now. We finished a night with a movie as we wondered, why don't we do this more often? Why don't we set aside time to relax together and get lost in someone else's. Ironically, we are all too lost in our own worlds to remember to step away from it, even for just a moment. After my Friday night in, I woke up feeling well rested for the first time in a long time, ready to tackle the day ahead of me. Here I have my go to brunch thing. It's a bit undecorated, but it's a egg wrap. I think that's. Yep, a spinach, mayo and sriracha inside and a lot of cheese. But yeah, I'm so happy I spent this weekend doing absolutely nothing. It's such a good reset from the previous weeks and I just feel ready to to keep going. Anyways, thanks for coming on my Friday night alone and I'll see you again next time.
