Market update for 4th March 2026. Markets have corrected sharply yesterday, catching up with the global weakness after Holi. The markets were closed on that day. Fear is clearly visible and volatility has spiked up, and that has reflected in our India VIX, India Volatility Index, which is the fear index. Now looking at the individual index performance, Nifty down by around 1.5%, Nifty Junior down by 2.7%, midcaps and small caps are also down by 2.1%, and Bank Nifty has also not been spared, down by 1.8%. Now midcaps and small caps are back to January support levels.
It's a broad-based selling, and even in commodities we have seen a decline.
Gold recovered to 16,275 per gram, and silver bounced 5% yesterday after a 20% crash earlier.
And this extreme volatility is also observed in metals as well. Looking at specific stock highlights, yes, HDFC Bank fell, financials were under pressure, even the PSU banks also had slight correction, Reliance traded lower, heavyweights dragged the entire index today. And some of the companies which has showed some resilience, right?
Some stocks have showed resilience.
Stocks like Coal India closed in green, and also in this kind of a weak environment, it is showing sustenance in a broad-based portfolio.
Also, Bharti Airtel held firm.
Infosys managed to stay positive, and even Solar Industries was one of the few green spots on the entire heat map.
So looking at the key takeaways for the investors and traders, this is a fear-driven correction, not a structural collapse.
So this is not like a bearish market, but yes, it's a global geopolitical tension kind of a correction.
And yes, right now volatility is high. Short-term bounce, yes, may be possible, but risk management is very, very critical now.
Stay disciplined, stick to your investment process, do not prematurely exit without your stop loss is being triggered, and hold on to the stronger sectors and the stronger stocks and follow process and be very disciplined in this market.
