Why complex trading is killing your profits

George Linfield made 4.1% profit on a 56-minute EUR/USD trade by sticking to a simple system: identify liquidity sweeps, confirm on a 1-minute timeframe, watch for market-structure shifts. Most traders lose because they overcomplicate. Two timeframes and a handful of rules beat indicators, bots, and elaborate analysis.

So I just got finishing a mentorship student, one of my students, um, and it urged me to create this video because one of the key things that, that we spoke about was how he was just overcomplicating what he was doing. He's thinking about too many things, considering too many different things, looking at too many time frames. And that reflected in his results. He wasn't getting the results that he wanted to because he was trying to do too much. And one thing that I always try and make a constant reminder of to all of my students is trading is far easier than you would ever think it's going to be. If you were a fly on the wall in my office and you watched my trading, you would not believe that I've been consistently doing this for the last 10 years and made a hell of a lot of money doing so as well. So I wanted to share an example actually of one of the trades that I've taken this week. Less than an hour and I've made 4% in profit. I mean, I rarely spend more than an hour or two on the charts per day. Um, so let me break it down for you because I think you'll be surprised at how, how simple it actually is. A 10-year trading veteran, and this is the simplicity of what I do. This is really how I, how I make my money. So let me share my screen. This was a trade on EU, um, on what day was this? This was on Wednesday, Wednesday this week, the 5th, and this position was for a total of 4.1%. And the total elapsed time of the trade was 56 minutes, I believe. Yes, on the 15-minute timeframe it says an hour. So 56 minutes and 4% made. So if you're a trader that's doing things like every other trader is doing them nowadays, that have got funding, etc., etc., I mean, in less than an hour you could be making literally thousands of pounds. From this very, very simple way of doing things. Very, very simple way of doing things. So how did this trade play out? I mean, firstly, there's, there's really only one reason why the market's going to move, right? It's about focusing on what matters. You could use indicators and bots and all this, that, and the other, but ultimately the markets aren't that complicated. And if you understand the true mechanics behind why things work I mean, your life is going to be a hell of a lot easier than what it is now. So how has this trade played out? Well, number one, the market's seeking its first— the first thing it needs to do in order to make a move, and that's liquidity. So what have we done here? Price has come down. We have been seeking this liquidity so it has fuel to make a move, right? That is how the market moves. If you're going to see an expansion, you're going to see the market run and rally and a position where you can make some money, more often than not it's going to come from a pool of liquidity, right? Where those orders align within the market. It needs to have fuel if it's going to create an expansion, right? It's all about cause and effect. If the effect that we want to see is going to be an expansion, well, what's the typical cause of that expansion? It's usually liquidity. So what we've got here at about quarter to 2 in the afternoon is a run of liquidity. Now, not every run of liquidity is going to give us the typical move that you want to be trading. So I use a lower timeframe confirmation model just to tell me, just give me the pat on the back and say, yep, this is a tradeable opportunity. So if I look at the 1-minute timeframe, you can see exactly how I got into this position. So again, we can see here that if I get this little time up, again got tagged into the trade at 2:05, and the trade closed out at 3 o'clock. So 55 minutes and 4.1% made. So if I zoom in here, look at this entry, we can see that what's happened is prices breached into this pool of liquidity. That liquidity has fueled the market to make its move and in turn created this impulse to the upside. That impulse to the upside has then, then shown us that the structural, the structural character of the market on the lower time frames has now started to change, right? Price is obviously bearish. We tap into this pool of liquidity and we fuel the move to the upside, and that causes the direction of the lower time frames to shift first. Okay, cause and effect. So Sweep of liquidity starts to cause— starts to affect the market's direction. Again, it's as simple as that. We've then seen market structure shift. We have seen that there has been a clear imbalance left in the market, which validates that this liquidity sweep is strong. That's it. It validates that it's a strong reaction, right? If you don't see an imbalance in the market, then the reaction is weak. It's a— we're not seeing that knee-jerk reaction. If we're expecting there to be a chunk of orders coming into the market from that liquidity it has to create that knee-jerk reaction. If it doesn't, well, there's obviously not liquidity there. It's as simple as that. Very simply, traded the pullback, targeted that next point of liquidity, okay, that structural continuation into this high here. And we can see we come back down, we tapped into that imbalance to again rebalance the market. All right, we don't want to leave anything behind here. We have an immediate run to the upside before that second impulse straight into the TP. So this is literally as simple as it gets. I don't do anything more, I don't do anything less. Simple, repeatable way of trading that allows you to consistently and predictably pull money from the markets. No trading indicators, no trading bots, no fancy analysis. Literally 2 time frames, a handful of rules and focus, and that's all it takes. And again, I'm sure you've watched a load of other YouTube videos where traders are doing all of this complex analysis. They want to make themselves sound super smart, but often what I've found with traders is that you start here, right? You start here as a beginner, you've got no knowledge, and often the goal is to get all the way around here and become the most knowledgeable, knowledgeable trader in the world. But the problem there is If you know too much, you do too much, and if you do too much, you lose your edge. So it's about keeping things simple. It's about identifying and validating an edge in the markets and sticking to it. So by far the most successful people that I've worked with have been able to go from no experience whatsoever to having an edge in the market. And when they have the edge in the market, they execute and they focus. They don't learn anything else. They don't refine their knowledge. They don't try and build new strategies, they just stick to the process. Because if you keep trying to change things and you keep trying to implement things and you try different strategies, you're never going to make money. You must master that process if you want to see the profits, right? The, the profits are just a byproduct of mastering that process that gives you an edge. So I just want to hop on it quickly and share this. I mean, I had a call with a student of mine, literally. I mean, how long is this video? This is 8 minutes long. Literally 10 minutes ago, got off the call with him and I thought, okay, let me put this in a video. Honestly, trading is more simple than you could ever have imagined, right? I mean, I, I, we work with a lot of traders that have come from a lot of different backgrounds, done this, that, and the other, and I am not surprised that these guys are not making money. It's a million different strategies, a million different assets, a million different currency pairs. You've got this bot, that bot, this trading time, you've got to pass these challenges to get access to this. There's a million different things that's going on. One strategy that gives you an edge over the market, use that to go and get yourself £100K in funding, use said strategy with said account, and you will make a lot of money. Again, £100K funding, 4.1% in profit, you're taking home £3,500. At least. It doesn't take more than that. So again, I just wanted to make this video. I hope you've taken away some value, but just remember, trading is far, far easier than you could have ever imagined. I'll see you in the next one.
