Why Do We Overwork Our Websites And Offers?

George Kao explains why purpose-driven solopreneurs obsess over perfecting their websites and offers, then launch to silence. He's done it repeatedly himself. His fix: work lightly and experiment a lot instead of chasing polish.

Soulpreneurs. I like to call us all soulpreneurs. Tell me what you think about that language. Solopreneurs who are kind of building a business that's more soulful, you might say, more aligned with like, this is something I really get energy from, that, you know, kind of, it's maybe even spiritual in nature in terms of like I'm here on Earth to do something that's related to this rather than just to make money, right? So soulpreneur, um, soulpreneurs tend to have this block or this— I've just known it, seen it over 17 years, this block where it's like, because this is so authentic to me, so aligned with my calling maybe, or purpose, or sense of, you know, this is a rich work that's meant for me to bring out into the world. Because of that, we tend to be way more perfectionistic than many entrepreneurs. What that means is we tend to work, in my opinion, overwork on our webpages, our descriptions of what we do, on our frameworks, on our, you know, offers. And I admit I have sold courses over the years that have probably made you overwork on those things, and I apologize. But I keep always bringing into my courses and my clients, work lightly, Work lightly and experiment abundantly. So that's the other side of the coin. I wish— and this is always a spectrum. You know, there's an experimenting too much and not enough groundedness in, you know, oh yeah, this is feeling really, really super aligned, you know. But then us solopreneurs tend to go way on the other end of the spectrum, which is Okay, whatever I put out there, it's got to be so perfectly aligned with, with my whole body's, you know, intuition, and it's got to be super aligned with what the feedback I'm getting from, uh, from everybody, uh, and especially Tad or whoever is the business coach at the moment. And, and then I'm gonna go ahead and, and then I'm gonna go ahead and and hire a designer, you know, and then, you know, spend all this money and time and making sure this is really presentable. And then I'm gonna put it out there with, you know, a signature framework webinar, which now I have to pay money to learn and then and create. And that's gonna take another couple of weeks or months or whatever. And then you put it out there and then you are shocked Or at least I have been myself, uh, with when I've done this many times, and my clients too. Shocked that, oh, come, nobody is piling on to this, signing up left and right like my soul does. And it's, it's, it's, it's a genuine, such genuine shock. Like, wait, what? How come it's quiet? How come I sent that email out and What's everyone thinking? Um, I myself have experienced this too many times.
