Hi, I'm Cheryl McColgan, founder of Heal, Nourish, Grow, and today I want to share with you my 5 lifestyle tweaks to increase your well-being. So when Authority Magazine did this interview with me, they always like to do a little video along with it, and I'm happy to share with you these 5 things that have really increased my well-being and that I've learned over the years are just so important to having a very healthy and balanced lifestyle, and they're a little bit non-intuitive, so they're not maybe some of the typical tips that you may have heard in the past. My first lifestyle tip to increase your well-being is gratitude practice. So this sounds very simplistic, but there's actually been quite a lot of research on it, and what happens when you practice gratitude on a daily basis, it increases your life satisfaction. And then of course, when you're more satisfied with your life, you have more gratitude. And so it's this lovely little circle that just builds on itself. And not only that, it can be something so simple. So just every night before bed, you can take out your phone— I mean, all of us have the phone on us all the time now, right? So you just make a little note in your phone, the 3 things that you're grateful for today. And even when you have a day that it's maybe very difficult, you always find things to love and appreciate in your life. It's nature outdoors, if it was your husband bringing you a cup of coffee in the morning, whatever it is, find 3 things to be grateful for every day, and that will greatly increase your well-being. The second lifestyle tweak that I have to increase your well-being is joyful movement. So this is something I have talked with people that I've worked with in the past about, and it's very different than exercise. It's got to be something that actually brings you joy, that you enjoy doing. It's— so it could be dancing, it could be yoga, it could— for some people, it is a more traditional exercise, like running or biking, but it's gotta bring something, a little bit of joy to your heart when you do it. My personal favorites, yoga has been one of mine for years. You can kind of get in this zone and it just feels, you know, very joyful. And the second one is like just dancing randomly in my kitchen whenever a great song comes on. So find some kind of movement that sparks joy in you, and that will be your lifestyle tweak for greater wellbeing. My third lifestyle tweak for increasing your well-being is to cook more. Now, that might not seem intuitive to a lot of people, but when you cook more, you're able to eat healthier foods. You're getting rid of all the processed things. You're getting rid of a lot of chemicals. Plus, it allows you to share that food with family or friends and show your love and caring for them in a different way that maybe you didn't before. So when you cook for people, when you cook for yourself and you cook healthy, nourishing food, That is an amazing way to increase your wellbeing. And that's my third tip for your lifestyle tweak. The fourth lifestyle hack for increasing your wellbeing is to spend time outside. And this seems so obvious, but you can actually get a very grounded feeling just by putting your actual feet on the earth. Now, obviously during the winter, this isn't always possible, but you do wanna spend time in nature every day because it really just grounds you, gives you kind of a sense of peace. Peace, calms you down. There's also been plenty of research on this as well. So trust me when I tell you that a great lifestyle hack that's gonna improve your wellbeing is to get outside every single day, no matter what the weather, bundle up. My final lifestyle tweak for increasing your wellbeing is to learn to say no. This is such a challenging one for a lot of people, but when I started to think of it in a different way, it became so much easier. And so now when I say no to something that doesn't serve me or that I don't have time for, I don't feel guilty about it. When I say no to those things, I'm actually saying yes to something else that actually matches my core values, that serves my well-being, that, you know, feeds my soul or helps me work better or spend more time with the people that are most important to me. So learning to say no is your final tweak to your lifestyle that's going to make your well-being skyrocket. Thanks so much for joining me today.
