Lashify DIY Lash Extensions - Tutorial and Beginner Tips for Longevity

Cheryl McColgan shows how to apply Lashify DIY lash extensions at home, covering tools, placement, and bonding techniques. She shares tips for longer wear: place lashes 2 mm above the waterline, use the blow tool to speed tackiness, and seal with Knight Bond. She started doing this during COVID lockdown as a self-care ritual.

Hey everyone, I'm Cheryl McColgan, founder of Heal, Nurse, Grow. Today I'm in the kitchen for a totally different purpose than usual, and that is to show you about my new little obsession with Lashify lashes. So it's been all over the internet forever. I actually first bought the kit about a year ago during the whole lockdown thing, and you know this channel is all about, you know, helping people with ways to To Look and Feel Better, which is mostly focused on fitness and nutrition. But I find that especially like during the lockdown time that I was just really, I don't know, struggling to feel good in some ways 'cause you're not going out, you're not getting ready and stuff. And there's something about waking up every morning with gorgeous lashes that just makes you feel better. So anyway, today I had my first one-on-one, hopefully there's not more than one needed, with Lashify Bev. Very helpful. Got some great tips that I just want to pass along to you in this video. And, um, also I was so nervous, like, trying to do these in front of somebody that I was, like, sweating profusely. So, um, before I moved on to make this video to show you guys, I went and put on something a little cooler because it is warm here today and I don't have the air running very high on this side of the house. Um, so anyway, I just want to show you one of the things that I have found that makes this process a little bit easier, and that is one of these sticky pads that you can have your lashes kind of mapped out and placed on so they're ready to go. And this is kind of all assuming that you're already familiar with the system. I'm not going to go through each and every, um, tool because there's already plenty of that online. Um, so to get started, I'm going to apply some White Whisper Light to the spines of the lashes for the first eye. And that's one nice thing about the pad is because it makes it so much easier to just put this bond onto the spines of the lashes. Uh, the reason I decided to have the one-on-one is because I was struggling with longevity a little bit. Um, they're advertised to get up to 7 days, but that can, um That can take some time before you get your technique really well to be able to do that. Um, I'd gotten 6 days, which survived some pool time, hot yoga, all that, but it was a different set of lashes. And that's actually one of the things I learned today that I had tried putting on the Fluffies a few days ago and they kind of just came right off. So it was likely due to my placement. Um, she said with the Fluffies, because they're a little heavier, you need to go a little bit further up the lash. So that was one of the things I learned today, which was awesome. And while those are getting tacky, I'm going to go ahead and turn on— I have my, um, mirror attached to the counter here. It's got a light on it. The other thing that I learned that was a great tip is to actually look down into the mirror, and you can use your other, um, hand obviously to kind of hold up your eyelid if you need it. But if you look down into the mirror— and actually, because of the way this is situated in the height of this counter, I have to stand up to really look down— but it really helps with placement so much because Probably one of the key things with longevity that people struggle with is that they place the lashes too close to the waterline, and if you do that, they're not going to last for you. So I'm going to go start with— I also have the Bondage, which is a stronger bond, but it dries a lot more quickly. I'm going to go back to using the Whisper Light because I'm thinking I'm going to put a fresh set on on Friday before I go out of town. But this is what the little wand looks like, and you just want to put it— she said you can't see my— well, I'll try to like get in here close so you can see my natural lashes a little better, but they're fairly long. They're just very blonde and fine. So she said only put about halfway up on my lash for me, if I can do that, because it, um, helps keep them from getting too clumpy or anything. And the thing that I've learned about this for sure is you want like just enough bond, not too much. Um, usually the problem is too much bond rather than too little. So I'm attempting to just get this only on the lower half of my lashes. If you have shorter lashes, you can comb all the way through, and I know that a lot of people just like to comb all the way through anyway. It just depends on your eye chemistry and how things work. So a lot of this is trial and error, so I'm still in the very much trial and mostly error stage, um, but I'm really liking them. The other tip she gave me was to— this is called the blow tool. It's very inexpensive but very useful because it helps you get the, um, bond to be tacky more quickly. And, uh, doing it from the top, um, prevents the lashes from getting stuck to your eyelid, which is a great tip. Uh, the other thing that I've learned is that one way to tell if your bond is ready to move on to the next step is really easy when you have natural or very light nails. Um, a little more challenging if you had darker nails, but you take one of your nails and tap the bond, and if it comes out with clean, then you're good to go. So that layer is done. Um, also working with multiple layers, uh, really helps with the longevity. And there's several methods. There's like the Defcon, the Lockdown, and you can find all of these on their Facebook page pretty much. But But now she said to go in again, same thing, and this time I'm just focusing at the base and I'm just going to wiggle a little bit. And what I've learned about this is you just kind of have to trust that some is coming off on there because you can't really tell very much. Um, but you put at the base, do a little wiggle, and just kind of trust it. Trust that it's there. And we're going to do the same thing again. Let this get a little tacky. Now since I have Whisper Light on the base of my gossamers and it's already clear, so those are good to go. By the way, the lashes are called gossamers if you're just happening on this video and you didn't intend to know about Lashify. But, um, so once this is the same situation, that's good to go. And then you want to take the white bond and just place some little spots about 1 to 2 millimeters above your waterline, right where you're going to place the spines of the lashes. Another thing, I think I need some new bond, but the, the other thing that I learned, not necessarily today, is the white's nice because you can actually see where you're placing it, but you don't want to get, again, not too much So I'm dabbing this. Sometimes I'm dabbing it and nothing's coming off. Sometimes I'm dabbing it and I'm getting some visible dots on my lashes. And so I hope— try to show you this. So if you can see on the outer edge of— I don't know if you can see that. Yeah, you can see it a little bit, but those are kind of some blocks. So one of the things that I saw was to just simply like give it a quick tap to get the excess off. And then now we're ready to go. So one of the things that we did today was I tried placing it from the outer. I've kind of gotten used to placing it from the inner corner, and I think I did a little bit better, um, doing it that way in the past. Again, it's trial and error, so you might want to try it both ways, but I'm going to start on the inner corner. And I've got just a little C10 here for the inner corner. So I'm going to go ahead and look down into the mirror and use my fingers to pull my lid up. And again, you're going for placement that's like 2 millimeters above your waterline. You're gonna go maybe a little bit higher than that for the Fluffies because she said that would help. Okay, so I've got that inner one placed, and you'll notice I was kind of messing with it because you can use the tips of your wands to kind of push up on the spine a little bit if you find that you get a little too close to your waterline. So that's another little tip. So I'm going to slightly overlap these, and even though I've got already some on the spine, it's kind of been— looks like it's pretty dried, so I'm just gonna go in and tap a little of the White Bond on the spine of the first gossamer so that when I overlap, it has something to stick to. So we'll go to this second one. Um, the other thing that you can do if you find that you get it too close is to just pull up slightly on the tips of the lash. I noticed with mine, because my natural lashes are fairly long, is that it sometimes, um, you might end up pulling your own lash. So just be careful with that depending on how long your lashes are. But that, that placement is looking good, so move on to the next one. Do a tiny dab on the spine. So I'm since I'm overlapping. Um, the overlapping, really, most people find that that helps with longevity. And since that's what I'm struggling with right now, I'm trying to do kind of all the little longevity tips. So, hey, you know, see, you just hold it like right Right, see, that's why I'm not a beauty blogger, because I don't know the hand trick to show you, right? So, um, let's go ahead with this one. You hear that in the background? It's just starting to get some good rain going over here. So I'm using in the center, I have the chocolate color Fluffies. And I have some of this white bond coming that's actually got a little brush because the lighter colors— all of the bond, most of the bonds are, it's either clear or black. And so obviously if you're putting the black bond with the lighter lash, you might notice it. Um, I don't have that yet, so Okay, so that was my third overlapped fluffy chocolate number 12. So, and this is called your lash math— what you, what sizes you put. People stack them, people do all different kinds of things with them. But so I've got the C10 on the inner corner, and I've got my 3 F12s overlapping everything as I'm going. Now, some people do this super quickly and have a lot of success getting them to stay. Um, and the first couple of times I did it, I did them very quickly as well. If you're looking— if you're not caring about leaving them on for days, if you're just wearing them on a daily basis or maybe for a night out, then you might not need to be quite this precise. It's only when you're trying to really get them to stay. And then obviously people that are very practiced at it, you eventually get a lot faster. So I've got this last fluffy chocolate 14. Not liking that last one. So you've got a little bit of time, especially if you're using the Whisper Light, to kind of correct yourself. I've got something goofy going on in the corner here. So you have to do this very gently, but sometimes if your lashes are too stuck together, you might be able to separate it out a little bit. The other thing that you might do is give it a quick fuse as you go if you find that the gossamers are moving around a little bit. All right, I'm going to attempt that last one again, and there's still a little dab of the Whisper Light, so I think we're good to go on that. So what I started to say is the other tip that I've learned from watching other people or reading is that you want to leave a few of your inner lashes and a few of your outer lashes out. That'll give you better longevity as well. So now you're basically on here. Um, now it's time to fuse, and I'm going to start with just a— they call this reverse fuse when you use the wand like this instead of the full fuse. I'll show you the full fuse in a moment, but I want to make sure I do this so that the lashes don't move around. And you're fusing for this first part, you're fusing the spines. So you want to make sure that you're landing the wand on the spines and always start to move it away from your lash gently because it might get stuck a little bit. So, um, I actually have 2 of these now, one to— for placement and one that's got— these are called wandums. They're like little tiny plastic pieces that go over. So the other thing I learned was the one way that she came in that made it easier to do a full fuse is to take the back, back part of the tweezer, wandum, whatever you want to call it, and you place that on your eye and then you just slide it down to the base That really helps you get behind the lashes, and then you're looking to put the rest of this part kind of on the bone. Once you've got that, once it's resting, then you just close the wandums and you do a little lift up. Now if you notice, like one of the times that I did this, I really, um, my eyelashes were kind of sticking straight up like too much, like, like they were touching my eyebrow. And I think part of it was the way that I fused like that with that lift. So if you're finding that they're too high up up. You can just fuse it more straight out or even a little down depending on the shape of your natural lashes. But I need to go back in here because you want to fuse all the way up. So after you do the base, then you're moving it out a little towards the middle and then the ends. And you don't want to do a death grip on— you're just closing these, you're not trying to like really crush them because, you know, remember your natural lashes are under there and you don't want to break them, right? So, um, but anyway, I think that one is pretty good. I have a little fuzzy on there, so I've got a spoolie. And that's not— the one thing is you don't— you definitely don't want to pull on them a lot either. So I'm going to go back in with the ones without the wandums, and if you just gently clamp down, then you can brush the ends without worrying about pulling these off before the bond is fully set. That also helps you get the lashes separated, any clumps that were from your natural lashes sticking to the Gossamerz. Okay, so again, I'm not a beauty blogger, I'm not perfect at this stuff. I do the best I can. I'm not a super big makeup person. I've never done like strip lashes or anything. All right, so I'm going to try to attempt to show you the underneath of this so you can see. So that's— I don't know if that's good enough, but anyway, you're trying to get it again that distance from the waterline with the fluffies, a little bit farther away. I would say this is a decent job, not my favorite ever, but I'm going to just go ahead and move on because I'm probably only going to wear these until Friday if they make it, because— and today is Tuesday— because I'm going to go out of town this weekend and I'm going to want to put on a fresh set before I go so I don't have to take all this stuff with me. Of course, I'll bring my remover in case there's a problem. I can just take them off, no big deal. So I'm going to go on to the next eye. And again, I'm just trying to get this sort of through the bottom. But you can see, I mean, this definitely— for somebody, if you're new at this, it's going to take a little time, especially if you're not like a super big makeup person. But like I said, I have done them before. Before, where it's more like, you know, 2 to 3 minutes per eye, just doing a quick application and not being super concerned about whether they're going to last or not. So, um, in fact, a lot of people actually put these on in the morning and take them off every night if you don't like sleeping in lashes, or you just really want to get in there and rub your eyes, because you can still, you know, swim in these, wash your face normally, be in the shower, all that stuff. But you never want to be rubbing on your eyes. You kind of like wash, you know, around that. And then if you have eye makeup and stuff on, then you're just using like something around the eyes, a Q-tip with remover. So you just have to— if you've ever had eyelash extensions before, the care is much the same. They're not as quite as durable, but pretty good. So just going in here to put the dots on the lashes and This time's a little better because I'm not getting so much on there, but I can still see it. That's the other problem with the black bonds, is it's like, it's hard to see really how much you're getting on there. So kind of just trust it. All right, give this a little, little squeeze here. And you know, the white bond is also nice because if you can tell by it turning clear if it's ready or not. And these this last one. All right, so we'll see if we can do the right eye. And all right, I forgot to stand up, but that one went fine. So we'll go on to the next one. Put my little dab here. You know, a lot of this stuff is just practice, right? And it's, you know, like I said, it's kind of become like a little COVID hobby for me since I am not a big makeup-er person. But, um, there really is just something about, you know, waking up with lashes that makes me feel a lot more put together, basically. I also should mention I do have a little discount code for these, so if you decide you want to try them It'll be linked somewhere, or you can always message me, no problem. So this side was theoretically going a little bit better, easier, but that last one I just noticed sometimes you have to pay attention to what the heck you did on this side, right? Because the angle of that one was a little bit different. And, you know, lashes and brows, they're sisters, not twins, but you do want them to try to be somewhat even. I always loved that saying. Alright, so I— and you know, there's another thing, like, I feel like the first couple of times that I did this, that it was a lot easier for me. I did— I felt like I did better. And now that I'm getting more into it, I feel like I'm regressing a little bit. But basically, you still end up with something that's very wearable. ...but I do learn a little bit of something every time I do it and I don't know. It's just fun for me. Again, not having ever been like a super big makeup person but um... I don't know. COVID just kind of made me feel like I needed a little something extra in my life. And also getting older, obviously. And that one just lifted up because I still— even when I placed it that next time— see, this is real life right here. This is what doesn't happen when you watch these other tutorials. It's like they do it all perfect and it's great and they're so good at it because they've done it for a while, and I'm just over here Like trying to, trying to figure it out still and doing my best. So I'm really hoping that this, the tip that she gave me about putting the fluffies a little higher, might be the key to getting them to last a little bit longer. Alright, finally the last one. Alright. So again, you could be really picky about the placement and about the— if they're just perfect, but I'm just going today for good enough. So let's go in and fuse these. Again, you're going into where these spines are on your lashes, and this is called reverse fuse because it's a little different than the full fuse. And if you have smaller eyes. This method is a little easier because the wand doesn't necessarily fit every eye exactly perfect. And so we got that going. I'm going to go in and do the full fuse now with that great tip about putting it up higher and then just sliding it down. I mean, that might seem obvious, but But, and then also that tip about resting this on the side, it gives you the perfect fuse and go up, go up. Woo! That was just making my eye water. Okay, so now you go and do again the fuse with the Wandums on. Again, you're not squeezing the life out of it, you're just closing the Wandum over the lashes. All right, so this is the final situation here, and let me get in close. Hopefully this focuses. So that's from the top, no band. Hopefully they're looking decent. And then there they are straight on. And let me just get a little further back so that, you know, if you're, if you're the distance that most people are going to be looking at you, then I don't know, I feel like they look fine. Um, not only fine, I mean, they look good. It's just they're definitely like— here's what I don't like that I did today. I should have put longer ones of these in the middle because they're just like a little bit short and then kind of up, which is great for a cat eye, but it's not exactly the cat eye shape. It's like, it's like the inner ones are longer than the middle ones almost. But the beauty of this is if you wanted to, you could go in with— and they call this stacking— I can go in on the top of these and I could you know, put a little more length right there in the middle. And I don't know, do I want to do that? I'm trying to think about that. Why not? I've got these two other lashes over here that I just cleaned that are the same. Um, I don't know, why not? Let's give it a go. I'm not usually a stacking person because especially with these fluffies, they're already dramatic enough. And if I would have just placed that properly the first time, we wouldn't be having this conversation. But this is the beauty of being able to do them yourself. You can fuss with them until you're happy with them. And I'm sorry about this camera thing today. It's like, I don't know, this is all, again, being a beauty blogger, not my, not my thing. So I'm putting Whisper Light on the spines. And I'm looking at my eyes and I'm seeing where I want to go in on, um, the spot where I think it's a little short, and I'm just going to put a little Bond there as well. I don't know, this whole stacking thing will be interesting because I've never done it before. I've watched people do it before, but I have yet to do it, so we'll see how this goes. They all make it look so easy. Their educators are really nice, really helpful. Um, no complaints. I've just really enjoyed it. It's just been kind of a very fun girly thing that I've been doing. Okay, so now I've got these 2. I'm going to put right on top here. I'm not holding this one enough at the end. You want to just hold it right at the tips, and I kind of grabbed that a little too low. Oh yeah, that's, that's already better. It just needed like a little bit more length right in the middle. So now I'll go ahead and do the other one. Okay, got this one ready. And I think Caitlyn sometimes calls this length stacking when you go in with the gossamer like just a little bit above the spine of the previous row of gossamer so that you can make them a little bit longer as you go as well. So now I'll just go fuse these again. Just going to do a very light fuse with this guy. And then, so you don't need two tweezers. It just worked out like that because they had a big sale on the Control Kit, and so I ended up getting a second one. But it's nice because now I can just use this one like this and then use this, but you can just as easily take the wand— they call these the wandam— you can take those on and off very easily. And oops, yeah, I'm really liking that shape a lot better. It was just a little bit too much shortness in that one spot. I'm looking awkward as heck, but yeah, I'm pretty happy with that. I mean, they're definitely thick, but here you can see the difference now. I don't know, it just makes me feel so put together. So the last step is— and some people use this, some people don't— but Glass is a sealer in Knight Bond, which is called Bond but it's actually a sealer as well. Um, the Knight Bond, you just go in and put this at the base of the gossamers underneath. So it's kind of like a little eyeliner thing, and I'm just gonna do that right now. You're just trying to paint it right on the spines. And this is also supposed to help you with longevity, and it's pretty easy because it's got that, um, tip that makes it easier to direct the sealer right on the bond. All right, and with everything, it's like less is more, right? So just get it on there and then be done with it. So hopefully you enjoyed watching me suffer through this, trying to get these lashes on. I will put an update below with this particular method. Like I said, I will— unless they're just gripping like crazy, I might just— then I might just leave them on. But I also think I'd like a different style for this weekend because, um, of the event that I'm going to. I might just like something a little bit more natural. Um, but I will give an update below on if these last till Friday. And if you decide to try it, let me know. I'll hook you up with the discount code. I'll put that below also, actually. And so I think that's it. But, um, anyway, I will probably do this again at some point, maybe when I'm a little better at it. Um, but I just find it very entertaining. Again, it just makes me, I don't know, makes me feel put together. So hope you have a wonderful day, and if you decide to try this, I'd love to hear about your experience below.
