Scale Like A Girl Ep 5 - The 9 Secret Sales Strategies Running In My Business Right Now (I Haven't Touched Most Of Them In Months)
18 Aug 2026 · 15 min
Kate McKibbin runs nine automated sales systems that generate multiple daily sales across different price points, most untouched in months. They include direct-response ads, order bumps, upsells, coupon campaigns, upgrade sequences, in-course funnels, DM automation, evergreen content funnels, and retargeting. The systems work together as a compounding revenue engine, not isolated tactics.

Right now, while you're listening to this, there are 9 different things in my business right now making me sales, and I'm not doing any of them. I'm here recording this podcast episode, and even better, I haven't touched most of them in months. And between them, they have made multiple sales every single day this year. Different mix of programs every day, but that is multiple sales every damn day. Now, some of them are proper grown-up funnels. Some of them are so small, I'd honestly almost forget about them if they didn't work so damn well. One of them literally took an afternoon to build, and it's still one of the best financial decisions I've ever made. So today I'm walking you through all 9, what they are, where they sit, and what each one is actually doing while I'm at school pickup. Build it, automate it, scale it. This almost feels too easy. Time to build a grown-ass business. The Doing It Online podcast. Here's your host, Kate McKibbin. Hey, hey there. I'm Kate McKibbin from hellofunnels.co and welcome to a very special pop-up miniseries episode of the Doing It Online podcast. This is Scale Like a Girl. We are 5 episodes in now. If you're new, go back and check out episode 1. It is well worth it and explains the whole thing. Otherwise, go and grab a pen and some paper. This one is hella practical and you're gonna wanna take some notes. Alrighty, before I get into it, I need to give you a bit of backstory because for a really long time, I was trying to build one thing. Let me know if this sounds familiar. You know, the whole one offer, one funnel, one perfect machine to $1 million thing. And I truly believe that that was going to be the best way for me to grow. That somewhere out there was the right perfect offer at the right perfect price, and all it needed was the right perfect funnel sitting underneath it. And once I found it, then I'd be in business, done, sorted, scaling like mad. So I'd build one and it would be okay. It would make, you know, decent sales, but never quite enough. Then it would stall and I'd decide that, you know, the offer was the problem or the funnel was the problem. So I'd go and build a completely different one. In fact, I killed some really amazing funnels and offers that way. Offers that were working, offers people loved. I walked away from them because They weren't the mystical one. And the whole time there was this enormous amount of pressure sitting on whatever that current thing was. Absolutely everything rested on it. Every month started with me looking at that one funnel going, right, go on, off you go, carry all of us, which is really a rather horrible way to run a business. And I did it for years. So here's the question I want you sitting with for the next few minutes. If you've got a business that works, And you are stuck at the level it works at, how many different ways can people actually give you money right now? My guess is probably max 2. Would I be right? And here's the thing I eventually worked out, which took me way longer than I really wanna admit. The offers were never the problem. Having only one way of selling them was. So why is that a problem? Well, there's 3 big reasons. The first one is that it's really fragile. One thing carrying everything means one thing can take everything down. The ad account has a bad month, the platform changes something, the market moves, and your whole business wobbles because there's nothing else holding it up. The second is that it has to be perfect to actually be worthwhile. So if there is just one funnel carrying your entire business, that funnel has to be optimized to a level I can only really describe as NASA. Every headline, every price point, every email in the sequence, every image. Now, I actually quite like the nerdy work, but let's be fair, most people don't. And if you don't love it, you'll never do it to the standard of obsession it needs to be done to, to be able to carry your whole damn business on its own. So you might sit there tinkering with something, changing some headlines, updating some button colors, and hating every second of it, and then wondering why you're not getting the results. And the third one is the one that really got me. One way in only ever converts one type of person because people do not buy the same way. Some buy in 10 seconds flat. Some take 11 months. Some need to work their way up to a bigger investment. They need to have a little taste test of what it's like to work with you first to make sure you're not a total lunatic. Some will never buy off a sales page, but they will absolutely convert from a couple of messages in the DMs. Some are ready right now. Some won't be ready till March next year. One door, one path means you're only ever collecting and converting the people who that is a perfect fit for at that exact moment. Everybody else just goes somewhere else. So it's not that you've got the wrong offer, okay? It's that you've got just one door. And here's the pattern I noticed once I finally stopped chasing the perfect one. Every single year I've had big growth and every year I've been properly profitable I have been making in a lot of different ways at once. I actually did an episode on it just a few weeks back where I broke down the entire last 12 months, and you would be shocked at the number of different ways that money came in. Not one enormous thing, a lot of things just all stacking on top of each other, compounding, supporting each other, and all adding up to 7 figures. Okay, so let me actually show you them now. I call these my secret sales systems. And I call them that because most of them are things that nobody sees and nobody outside of my business would ever notice were happening. They're not live campaigns. No one's announcing them. They just sit there running, making offers to the right people at the right moment. Now, one instruction before I start, because there are 2 different ways to listen to a list like this. You can hear a big list of 9 things and start writing out your own to-do list, right? Or you can listen for how they actually work together, and I want you doing the second one. I'll tell you why at the end, because it's actually the point of the whole episode. Okay, right, let's start at the top. So the first 3 sales systems all live in the same place, the moment somebody's buying. So number 1 is ads straight to an offer, right? This is the obvious one. I'm not going to spend long on it. We run ads all the time direct to a low-ticket offer. Somebody sees it, somebody clicks, then they buy. That's You know, one of our front doors. Fine. Everyone knows about that front door. It's the next 2 that actually make that front door worth having. Number 2, the order bump. That's that little add-on box sitting on your checkout page. Your customer's already got their card out, they've already decided, and here's just a simple tick box offering them one more thing that makes that first thing even better. It's a no-brainer. Number 3, the in-cart upsell. And this is a different animal, even though they kind of get lumped together. The upsell comes after she's paid. She's already a customer. The transaction is essentially done, and now she gets offered a natural next step. 2 completely different moments, 2 completely different offers, and 2 completely different jobs. Now here's why I'm giving you both. We have a $47 offer as one of our front doors. This is a gateway offer, right? The average person who buys actually spends $140 from a $47 product. Some of them spend as much as $400. Now, that is not some magic or some sneaky price rise. That is strategic order bumps and even more, and a string of even more strategic upsells doing their job on every single sale all day forever. And it roughly doubles the profitability of that whole offer, which changes what I can afford to spend on ads, which changes how many people come through the front door in the first place. Do you see how that's already compounding and we're just 3 in? Set them up once, every sale you make from that day on carries them. Okay, quick one before I keep going. Every single strategy on this list is something we are gonna help people install inside of Scale, my brand new high-touch container for ambitious 6-figure coaches and course creators ready to upgrade their business to wildly profitable, mostly automated, and actually enjoyable 6-figure months and beyond. The first round is a pilot program. We're gonna be capping it at just 20 people and the waitlist is already filling up. If you wanna make sure you're on it so you don't miss out, grab the link outta the show notes now and jump in. Okay. The next 3 all happen after somebody's already bought something from me, and this is where most businesses just kind of stop or phone it in, right? So number 4, coupon code campaigns. Now, I don't use these everywhere and I don't use 'em that often, so don't go and put a coupon code on every part of your business tomorrow. But there are very specific places where a coupon code works an absolute treat and just makes sense. Maybe someone's bought a thing and there's a very obvious complementary thing or next step that goes with it. So she gets a code for that specific next thing with a sequence around it that explains why it's the right next step for her. Not a big discount blast the whole list, just a matched offer to somebody who just told me exactly what they're interested in right now. All right, number 5, the upgrade sequences. We have several different versions of these, and these are actually my favorite thing on the entire list, and I think the most underrated thing. in an online business. So somebody buys something, that initial sequence helps them actually go and use the thing they bought properly, which almost nobody does for their customers, by the way, and which is the single biggest reason people would actually buy again. Then it starts to plant the seed for what comes next. And then once she's had a great experience with the first thing, it follows a strategic sequence and then makes her the next offer. That's it. Value, consumption, seed, offer, and these run in various different versions automatically off the back of every purchase for every offer. Now, number 6, the in-course funnels, also known as curriculum funnels. I call them both. I can only spell one. This is strategic sequencing and offer placement actually inside my physical programs. So while somebody is in there doing the work, getting results, having those aha moments, that next step is right there in front of them. At the exact moment where it becomes something that they need, not bolted on the end as an afterthought, not a retargeting ad a couple weeks later, built into the thing that she's already bought and already loving. And then there are the last 3. They don't sit at one particular moment, but they run underneath everything all the time. So number 7 is our DM automations. I did a whole episode on this just 2 episodes ago, so I won't repeat myself. But the short version is these are constantly filtering, sorting, and warming people up and pointing each person at either strategic content or whichever of my offers is genuinely the best fit for where they're at. Number 8, content funnels. And this isn't just my social media content. I've got content out there that's been working for years. It gets found all the time by people I've never met and never paid to reach. And it doesn't just sit there being nice. It points to things, to either a strategic piece of content, to a specific lead magnet, or into a specific funnel. Old content is an asset. Most people treat it like an old diary entry. And number 9, retargeting funnels. Again, I went deep on this in episode 3, so I will keep it short. But a small, deliberate set of ads that only ever goes to people already showing me interest signals and buying signals, it's running always, teeny tiny budget, never turns off. Most importantly, it massively shrinks the amount of time It takes for a potential customer to go from interested to I'm in and buying. And that's all 9. Now here's the bit I told you to wait for, because I know how a list like this sounds. It just sounds like a pile of tactics. And I know some of you have already opened up a note on your phone and written out like, add order bump, create upsells. Please don't just do that because a pile of tactics is not what this is. And if you install them as a pile of individual tactics, it will really not work that well. What makes them work is that every single one of them is actually connected strategically to the ones before it. The offer that sits behind each one is deliberately chosen. The order they run in is deliberate and strategic. The message each one carries is written for that exact moment that it lands. Done badly, this is just 9 different ways to annoy somebody. Done properly, nobody feels sold to at all. It just feels like the right thing showing up at the right time over and over, until buying is the absolute obvious move. And they don't just add up, they multiply. Having 2 of these in place is not just twice as good as having one. The bump pays for more traffic. The traffic feeds the upgrade sequence. The upgrade sequence creates the customer the retargeting is talking to. The content brings in people to the DM automations and converts them faster, which is why the answer to growing is almost never just find more eyeballs or spend more on traffic. It's what you do with the ones you've already got. And what it looks like from the inside is sales every day, multiples every day, a different mix of programs every single time. Low ticket, mid ticket, high ticket, all done on autopilot. Not because anything went viral, not because I ran a launch, and not because I did anything overly special on that day. So that's the shift I wanna leave you with. Stop hunting for the one big thing, the one perfect thing. There isn't one. If there was, you'd actually hate having to keep it up to scratch. Compounding layers beats one thing every time, and they are the true secret to making reliable and profitable sales while you sleep. Now, inside my business, each of the 9 things I just walked you through has a proper name, and we call them upgrades because that's exactly what they are. You don't rebuild anything to get one. You click it on, on top of what's already working one at a time and make that thing worth more. And that is the whole premise of our program, Scale. Scale is my brand new high-touch container for ambitious 6-figure women ready to upgrade their business to wildly profitable, mostly automated, and actually enjoyable 6-figure months and beyond. We start with your offers, get them in the right shape and the right order. Then we install the upgrades, 2 to 4 to begin with in the first couple of months, the ones that will move your number the most, one at a time, alongside everything you've already built. The first round is going to be a pilot, and we're capping it at 20 people because we want to be able to go deep and overdeliver. Everyone in that room gets the best price this program will ever be locked in for as long as they stay. If you'd like to be in the running for one of those limited spots, the link is in the show notes now. Jump in, join the waitlist. You do not want to miss out. All right, that's it for today, guys. I'll see you in the next episode. That's it for this episode. Now go build it, automate it, and scale it. I love the show, guys. You're awesome.
