Hope Nights Online (Greenville, SC)

In this live‑online sermon, Hope Carpenter addresses a congregation with a high‑energy, call‑and‑response style, urging listeners to recognize that their current struggles are not the whole story. She introduces the concept of “God DNA” or “divine satisfaction,” asserting that every believer carries an inner voice that screams there is more than the mundane routine of work, family, and fatigue. Drawing from her personal background in a “penny Pentecostal Holiness” church that taught poverty as righteous, she challenges the notion that material desire is sinful, encouraging believers to pursue better economic and spiritual lives. The core of the message is an expository walk‑through of Ephesians chapters 1‑3, highlighting four key themes—identity, purpose, inheritance, and authority— and unpacking verses about being blessed, predestined, chosen, redeemed, adopted, sealed, and empowered. She emphasizes that these benefits are already possessed, not future promises, and that the same power that raised Christ from the dead (dunamis) operates within believers, enabling transformation, miracles, and abundant living. Throughout, she calls the audience to recognize their spiritual position, fight from victory, and engage in community life groups, stressing that reconciliation extends beyond God to fellow believers, forming a family in Christ. The sermon blends personal testimony, theological exposition, motivational exhortation, and practical invitations to live out the “more” life God intends.
Chapters
Are you ready for the Word?
Yes.
How many of you believe there is more?
Yes.
How many of you ever felt like, is this all there is? Have you ever said that? Man, is this all there is? Getting up, getting everybody dressed, beating people out of the bed, cooking breakfast that they don't eat. Getting them to school on time, going to a job you hate, knowing you've got laundry to do when you get home. Oh, it's so exhausting. I just depressed you right there, didn't I? And then some of y'all coming home to him with his scratchy feet and his big old belly and— God, is, is this all there is? I have walked through some really crappy seasons in life, and if I believed that this is all there is I would have given up. I wouldn't be here tonight. What about you? How many, how many times have you thought, I can't take any more? Yeah, raise your hand. Be honest. Yeah, we've all felt it, thought it. But guess what? We got up the next day, right?
Yes.
And we did it again, and we kept going, and here we are tonight. And here's the thing. Here's the promise.
Yes.
I believe, and I know in my heart that we have God DNA on the inside of us. That's the voice that's actually screaming, there is more! It's the God in me. It's the Spirit of God. It's the God DNA. I call it divine Satisfaction. And it's not sadness. It's not depression. It's not him. It's the God in you screaming. It's your spirit grieving, wanting to live the victorious life, the kingdom life that you know that your spirit knows that you are called to. Have you ever thought of it that way? It's not just life. It's just not depression. It's just not where you live. It's, it's not just your job. It is the God in you. It's the God DNA that is screaming. It's that spirit to spirit trying to get out. And I also believe that it's okay to desire and want more.
Amen.
To want to be better, to want to live better, to want to be on a different economic level, to actually be able to be a blessing than to need a blessing.
Amen.
I believe that it's okay to want more, to want better. I was raised in the penny Pentecostal Holiness Church, P-E-N-N-Y.
P-E-N-N-Y.
Which I love my heritage, and I'm so thankful for the Holy Ghost that I got in my church. But they taught and believed that it was righteous to be poor. How can you help somebody? How can you feed the widows and the orphans if you don't have anything? It's okay to want more, to be better, to live better. But then there's those people who are haters, always criticizing, always critiquing. They're criticizing and critiquing the people that are doing something and moving and shaking and growing and getting better and prospering and building. And those are the people that stay stuck because they can't clap for others. Don't be that girl. Look at your neighbor and say, don't be that girl. Don't be her.
Don't be her.
They speak ill out of their mouth, and then they actually bring curses on themselves because they're jealous and they're a hater. But Ephesians 3:20 says, now to him who is able— you need to get that in your spirit. God's able. It's not an ability problem. God hasn't moved. He's still on the throne. Now to him who is able— To do what? To do exceedingly abundantly above all that That we ask or that we think according to the power of God that is at work on the inside of me and you. And see, that makes you want to shout. Y'all shouted, y'all clapped, y'all did all that. But if you are familiar with grammar— how many of y'all made great grades in school? I was a C average student. How about you?
Okay.
But if you're familiar with grammar, you know that sentences that start with now or but, it means that it's connected to the theme or the idea that came before it when you're reading it. So to understand Ephesians 3:20 accurately, We've got to go to the prior chapters. Are you ready? Are you ready? Thank you so much, PJ. I love you. Oh, Eli. Hey, Eli. You're not PJ. Lord, help us to receive this Word.
Yes.
Help it to go deep into our heart tonight. Shift us. Change us. Oh God, change us tonight. Rewire our thinking. Help us to see you for who you really are and who we really are in you in Jesus' name. Amen. So let's go back to chapter 1. We were in Ephesians 3, okay. It's going to be a lot of scripture. I'm not going to make you turn to it. I'm going to highlight it. We're going to read over it. Chapter 1 in Ephesians, Paul is trying to tell us to understand who we already are and what we already possess Because we belong to Christ. That whole chapter is him trying to tell you who you already are. Not who you're going to be, but who you already are because of the finished work of Jesus Christ. And it's about identity, purpose, inheritance, and authority. Identity, purpose, inheritance, and authority. Say it with me: identity.
Identity.
inheritance, and authority. Say it again. You're going to be so smart when you leave tonight. Identity, purpose— you're going to say, I know all about Ephesians 1. Identity, purpose, inheritance, and authority. So in verse 3 it says that you have already been blessed. You have already been blessed with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ. Not that you will be blessed, not that if you act right you will be blessed. It says that you have already been blessed with every spiritual blessing in heavenly places. Say, I'm already blessed.
I'm already blessed.
Say it louder, I'm already blessed. Say, I've got everything I need. It's just in heavenly places. He's already provided, but it's somewhere that I've got to access it. There's got to be a way. There's got to be a key. There's got to be a combination to get what's there to Bank of America. Do you understand what I'm trying to say here tonight?
Yes.
There's got to be a way to access what's there into my chart. That's right.
Praise God.
Okay.
So I'm already blessed with every spiritual blessing in heavenly places, already blessed. Nothing I've got to work for, nothing I've got to pay for, nothing I've got to do. It was already done long before I ever got here. I'm already blessed. Say, I'm already blessed. I'm already blessed. And then in verse 5, it says that you are predestined. That means long before you got here there is a finished work that was already available to you, that God has predetermined your steps. He's already got it mapped out. He sat down and finished the story, the book of your life, before you ever got here. You don't beg for it. It's already done. You're not good enough to have it. Christ is our righteousness. Right?
Yes.
So my good life, my blessed life, my benefits are already planned. And God's plans for my life and for your life are so good I mean, can you imagine him planning it and you wasn't here, and all the steps that he had to put together, that he had to make happen just to get you here? And you thought you were just a missed birth control pill. And you thought that you were just an unplanned pregnancy. My God in heaven, he already predestined this good life for you. It don't matter how you got here. God just had to get you here.
Amen.
So you could walk out the blessed life, so you could walk out the good life.
Whoo!
That ought to set some of y'all free tonight who've been struggling with how you got here. It don't matter how we got here. We got here.
That's right.
And it's a good life. Then he says that you are chosen. You're chosen. In him and you're accepted. How many of us struggle every single day? We strive every single day to be picked, to be chosen, for somebody to like us, to be accepted in this group and accepted over here.
Amen.
All that striving, you're already chosen. You're already— you made it! If you got here, you're already chosen, right? Before any accomplishment, before any title, before any career, before any degree. Come on, somebody. Before any reputation, before any failure, before any divorce. You were chosen, and you didn't choose him. The Bible says that he chose you. He picked you. He picked you out of the million swimmers and said, that one, I choose that one.
Millions.
Look at your neighbor and say, you're one in a million, baby. You're one in a million. You're one in a million. If you ever wondered tonight, you gotta know that you are one in a million. God chose you. He planned you. He predestined you. He accepted you. Oh, y'all better say— y'all had got me sweating up in this place tonight. I promise we paid the power bill. It don't feel like it, but we did. Then in verses 7 through 10, it says how you were redeemed. And I don't know if you know the scope of that word, if you truly have studied it or you understand it, what that word redeemed really means. It really means this: You weren't really worth it. Come on, come on. But he paid full price. That's what it means. It means he bought you back. See, he had planned you first, but then we get here born into sin and we screw it all up. And he said, but I still am going to pay full price because I chose them. That's the one I want. My God in heaven, you actually should have been on the clearance rack. You know that, right?
Yes.
At Marshalls. Marshalls is already a clearance rack. Then they got another one. That is where we should have been. But you were so valuable that he paid the full price for you. Honey, you are Nordstrom. You're Neiman Marcus.
Whoo!
See, he chose you before the damage was done. You've got to get that in that little brain right there. He chose you before the damage was done to you, before your bad choices. Come on now, before all that, he paid full price, not the sale price.
That's right.
And then he says in verses 11 through 14, he says, now there is an inheritance that I have laid up you. This is so powerful. He says, therefore now you have obtained an inheritance. And listen, it's not just about what you've been saved from, but what you've been saved into.
Amen.
You've been saved from that family, saved into his family. My God, my God, my God. You better shout, there's more!
There's more!
There's more!
There's more!
You might not have earthly parents who's going to leave you anything, but you have an inheritance that is laid up for you. Listen, it's better than any 401. It's better than any Roth. It's better than any annuity, IUL, bank account, savings account, and a bond. Whatever you got going on— pension, bond, 401— what you have laid up for you in him is better than any of that. Why? Because he is my elder brother now because I've been adopted. Into the family, and I am an heir and a joint heir with Jesus. So whatever is coming to Jesus is coming to me; it's coming to you. You got an inheritance laid up for you.
Woo!
Then Paul said. And now we are sealed with the Holy Spirit who is the guarantee or the down payment. See, you got off good. You didn't have to pay for none of this.
Amen.
It's a free gift and all these benefits. Now we are sealed with the Holy Spirit Who is our guarantee and our down payment. Then Paul prays in verses 15 through 18. When I was studying for this, y'all, this got me. It broke me for hours and hours. Paul prays. He says, God, open their eyes.
Open their eyes.
I've just laid out everything you've done for them, but God, they can't see it. God, open their eyes. See, Paul— when we say there is more, Paul is not asking or saying that God's going to give us any more Come on, come on. He's praying that we get a revelation of what we already have. What is already mine, what is already yours, all these benefits. That I just laid out for you just in chapter 1. And what is already ours? It's 3 things: the hope of our calling, the riches of inheritance, and the greatness of his power. It's the hope of our calling, the riches of his inheritance, and the greatness of his power. Say it with me: It's the hope of our calling, the riches of inheritance, and the greatness of his power. The hope of our calling, the good life, the plans that God has for us, the riches of our inheritance, all those benefits that have been laid up for us, and the greatness of his power. He says that same power is at work on the inside of me and you.
Amen.
The issue is We have not recognized or seen what we already are and what we already possess. We don't recognize all the work that's already been done through the death, the burial, the resurrection of Jesus for me, for you, right? We have all these benefits, all this power, and we don't And we walk around depressed and sick and addicted, full of anxiety, needing a drink. Come on, y'all. We have all these benefits available to us, but we can't see it. We can't see it. It's kind of like You ever heard of Elon Musk?
Yes.
It's kind of like being Elon Musk's daughter and he gave you the PIN number to his bank account and you can't remember it. That's what we're walking around like.
Come on.
Because all the benefits that he's already provided for us, and we live such a low level, such a low level, not knowing who we are in him. Not cocky, but confident. confident, knowing who we are and what he's done for us and what are our rights as kingdom citizens. Then verses 19 through 23 says— Paul finishes with this. He says, this same power, this same power that raised Jesus from the dead. Can you just imagine that? That same power that raised Jesus from the dead From the dead is working on the inside of me and you. Bum bum bum bum bum bum bum dum dum dum. I got the power. When I got a revelation of this scripture, I've just been walking around all. I got the power.
Whoo!
You got the power to see miracles in your body, in your marriage, in your money, in your mind. You got that power, the same power that raised Jesus From the dead. You might be looking at a bad doctor's report. You might be looking at a dead marriage, but you still got the power that raises dead things back to life if you could just see it, if you could just recognize it.
Whoo! Glory.
Ephesians 1:1 describes this power. It says, it's far, it's far above, far above all principalities and power and might and dominion. Listen, Jesus isn't barely above Satan. It's not just God and Satan's God Jr.
Come on.
Ephesians 1:1 says, he is far above every principality, and every power, and every might, and every dominion, and every name that tries to be a name. He said it's got to bow because he's got the power.
Yes.
And he said that same power is working and living on the inside of me and you. And that's the life we're called to. That's the more. That's the more life that we are called to. It's not— it's not called to a bigger house, a bigger car, a bigger bank account. It's the power of God on the inside of of us that shifts things and moves things and elevates things and brings things down to a low place and makes it bow. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is on the inside of me. It's on the inside of you. So Ephesians 1 says we're blessed, we're chosen, we're adopted, we're accepted, we're redeemed. Somebody better shout about right now. We're forgiven. We've been given an inheritance. We are sealed, and we are empowered. All that in Ephesians 1. So before you can fully understand the more of God, you have got to get a revelation of who God says that you already are. Because once you know it, you will not settle for a life that doesn't look like it. Once you see it, once you know it, you will fight everything that gets in your path that would try to keep you from living in your joy and living in your peace and who you are in Christ and operating in your inheritance. Come on, somebody!
Amen.
God, help us. God, help us see tonight. I need you to lay hands on your eyes right now and say, God, you've got to help me see. You've got to help me see what you've already done for me, God. Now lay your hands on your neighbor and say, God, help them see. Help them see tonight. Help them see. Ephesians 2 is all about transformation. Now Ephesians 1 tells us everything that's our right, everything he's already done for us that we should be living in and operating in. But then we look at ourselves and say, ugh, I've got issues. I've got some problems. Right? Because we are naturally— we're born into what? We're born into sin.
Sin.
So we have to be reborn. So that is our transformation. Ephesians 2 is all about transformations. It's who we were without Christ, what God did for us through Christ, and who we now become Christ. Let me say it again: who we were without Christ, what God did for us through Christ, and who we are now becoming in Christ. Y'all got it. Y'all got it. How many of us were a hot mess when God found us?
Yes.
Say, I knew she was talking to you. Tell your neighbor, say, I knew it. I knew it. She's been on my toes all night, but now she's talking to you. Ephesians 2:1-5 says— it describes how we were dead in our sin and trespasses, but God—
But God.
How we were dead, In our sin and our trespasses, but God made us alive in him. We were lost, but God. We were spiritually dead, but God. Come on. We could not rescue ourselves, but God. Somebody just needs to shout, I'm a but God kind of girl! I'm a but God kind of girl! I shouldn't be here tonight, but God. I shouldn't still be married, but God. I shouldn't be in my sane mind tonight, but God.
Woo!
Jesus! Grace met me. Grace met you. But he never intended to leave us where he found us. Shout, there is more! There is more! It's a transformation. Look at your neighbor and say, she's talking about the transformation. Then he says, we were raised with him, but we are also seated with him. He raised you But then he seated you. Chapter 2, verse 6 says, he hath raised us up together and made us— I don't think that is asking your permission.
That's right.
He said, he has raised us up together and made us sit together Yes. In heavenly places in Christ Jesus. But see, we go through this life and our situation and our circumstance makes us feel behind and defeated, and that maybe we've done too much, or maybe that life's not going to ever get any better. But Paul here is urging you to take a look at your spiritual position. See, we don't fight for victory. You've already won. But you do fight from a position of victory.
Amen.
You don't fight for it, you fight from it. The Bible never said you wouldn't have any trials or tribulation. Matter of fact, it promised that you would. It said, in this world you will have tribulation. That word literally translates stress...
Yes.
...the squeeze, anxiety, pressure. In this world you will have it. But you've got to push past it to get to your victory. How can I preach it? Because I have lived it. Because I have lived it. He's urging us to understand our spiritual position. We live from victory. That he's already won. Not that you gotta fight to win. He's already won it. Shout, I win!
I win!
Say, I'm a winner! I'm a winner! Winner, winner, chicken dinner! That's what you tell the devil. I'm a winner, punk! Winner, winner, chicken dinner! And then cock your head and walk on with your bad self. Knowing who you are in Christ.
Knowing who you are in Christ. Right?
But if you don't know your benefits, you don't know that he has raised you and seated you and positioned you, then you will walk around in this life under your circumstances. Yes.
Mmm.
You better get back in your right place tonight. You better get back in your right place. You better get in your seat tonight. You are raised and you are seated with him in heavenly places. We are saved by grace, not of works, but we are saved for good works. Come on, y'all. We are not saved by works, but we are saved for works. You need to be doing something. You can't just sit in your room and sing Kumbaya. Faith without—
Works is dead. Yes.
It don't work. And then verses 14 through 18 says we are not just reconciled to him. Y'all, this part's so important. Y'all got to hear it. Some of y'all don't want to hear this part. Some of y'all who like to say, it's just me and Jesus. I don't need no friends. I don't need no church. I don't need to be in no life group. It's just me and Jesus. I'd be a great Christian if it wasn't for people. You ain't going to like this part, but it's the Word. He did not just reconcile you to him, but God's plan intended that he would break down every wall that separated you from others.
Amen.
I am sweating. It's not just about me and God are good. Are you and her good? He didn't just reconcile us to him, he reconciled us to one another. Different races, different pasts, Different backgrounds, different cultures, different stories, but we're one family in Christ. Where many become one. That's why I love this church so much. We're not just trying to get you good with God. That's why we're trying to get you in a life group, to tick you off, to make her just grate your nerves so you can work out your salvation. So you can work on your fruit. Then he says— y'all, we're just reading the Word. We're just breaking down the Word tonight. Then he says, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but you are fellow citizens in the household of God.
Faith.
Is that not what Pastor's been preaching?
Yes.
We were strangers, but now we're citizens. And it wasn't enough that we were just a citizen. Then he said, I want to make you a family. That's why people say, well, I don't have to go to church to be saved. Well, don't— you ain't going to have a family. Well, what's going to happen when you're sick and in the hospital? I bet you're going to be calling the church. I bet you're going to be calling the elders. You don't like it until you need it.
Amen.
So, let's recap Ephesians 2. We were dead, now we're alive. We were lost, now we're saved. We were under judgment, we got mercy. We were far away and he brought us near. We were separated, now we're reconciled. We were strangers, now we're family. We were alone and now we are built together. There is so much more So much more. So much more than the life that grace rescued you from. There is a life that grace has called you into. That is the more of God. And now here we are, Ephesians 3. I had to say all that Amen. To say this, Ephesians 3. Here we are, and I can see Paul. He wrote this. He was writing this in a prison. He was talking about and extolling and praising all the benefits and the goodness of God while he was chained to a prison. Now, It ain't prison like we know today. They don't get 3 square meals and the internet.
Okay?
We talking about you got to poop and eat and all the things. Look, one rat would have took me out. One would have took— I'd have had a heart attack and went on. It would have been over. Done. But he's sitting there in those conditions and had been writing this And I can just see him when he got to Ephesians and he said, now... now unto him... He's saying all that to say, now we've got to stop and thank him just a minute. Now unto him who is able... Now unto him who is able.
Now unto him who is able.
You might be looking at a bad situation tonight, but you gotta see, you gotta see who you really are and what he's done for you. You gotta say, now unto him who is able, who is able.
Yes, ma'am.
He was just reflecting on all the benefits of God. Can you imagine him sitting in that prison in a terrible situation, but all he could think about was the goodness of God in his life? He was in a jail cell. I can just see him. He was thinking about how God had already predestined his win, but his situation didn't look like he was winning. But he knew the God he served. He knew that, that if, that if he's not dead— He's not dead. God's not done yet. That he knew the God he served was going to get him out of this situation. Oh my God, how he was naturally not a fit, how he was born on the wrong side of town, but God chose him to be his disciple and to watch him in real life Do these miracles. And how much it cost the Lord to redeem him. He wasn't on sale, discounted rate, but the full price. And after thinking about all that, he's sitting there. He's written chapter 1. He's written chapter 2. And now he's at chapter 3 in his mind. His mind is blown. His mind— faith has just— I could just feel it, because did you feel it talking about chapter 1, chapter 2? His mind was blown, and he's got faith rising on the inside of him. Listen, he could have had a pity party sitting there. Well, if it wasn't for Jesus, I wouldn't be here anyway. How many times have we forgotten our benefits and got in our own pity party and forgot where we were seated and placed so that we could be up high, so that we could get a different perspective and see it in God's view?
Amen.
That it's not over yet. See, when you're in the middle of it and you're in the right here looking at it, it looks like that's all there is. But when he tells you to come up higher and get a different perspective, see, when you come up higher, you don't just see the situation you're in. You see all this over here to here, and you can see all the way over here. That's why he says he's raised you and he seated you right here with him.
Amen.
God, why did all this have to happen to me? How can God allow this? Why is this taking so...? Not remembering that if I suffer with him, He said, I'll reign with him. Or the part where he says, you're going to have to pick up your own cross and follow me. Every day is not going to be rainbows and butterflies, but it's not over till it's good, because he's got a good plan for you that he already predestined. You just hadn't got to that part yet.
Whoo!
Now unto him who is able. I know he was talking to himself. He said, now unto him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that I can ask or think, not according to my knowledge, not according to my degrees, Not according to my last name or my bank account, he said, but according to the power of God that has been deposited, the seed, the DNA of God that is on the inside of me and you, according to the power that's at work in me. Somebody shout, there is more! There is more! There's more to this life I'm living.
Yeah.
Have you ever seen a movie— if you're Pentecostal you weren't allowed to watch them, but have you ever seen a movie where dynamite just goes off and it blows up the building and bodies are going everywhere and legs are over here and the whole building collapses and they'll throw a grenade in and somebody's head goes over there and their heart's Yes. Over here. I know, I know, it's too much. It's too much. But I'm trying to let you see. I'm trying to help you see it happens quick. Things start shifting quick. Things move. The entire structure changes. It becomes something completely different when power, when power hits it. And that is what that word, according to the power, that is dunamis, according to the dynamite shifting, changing, rearranging power that is at work on the inside of you. That's the kind of power that's sitting on this inside of you that you have not activated because we are still low-level thinking. We are looking at our situation and our circumstance. We, we forgot where we're supposed to be seated. It's available, but are your eyes open? Can you see it? Can you believe it? Can you push through the pain of what's going on around you to operate in the power of the That's on the inside of you. Can you see it?
Now unto him.
I've been saying it all week now. Something comes up in my life, something comes up, a roadblock, something comes up with my kids, my grandkids. Now Unto him. I'm not looking at it. I know it's there, but I'm looking past it because I see with a different perspective now. Unto him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that I could ever ask or think, not according to me or my knowledge, but according to the power that's at work on the inside of me. There is a bigger life than you are living right Amen. There's more power that you could be operating in right now. There's more joy. There's more peace. There's more freedom. You're above and not beneath. You are the head and not the tail. You're supposed to be the lender who can see it, who wants it, who faith? Who's ready to live it? Say it with me today. God is able. God is able. Look at your neighbor and prophesy. Say to them, you're going to be walking out differently. You're going to start living differently. Your marriage is going to look different. Your bank account's going to look different. Your body's going to look different. Your mind's going to look different. Your attitude is going to look different. You have been raised with him tonight. Now unto him. Oh, shout, there is more! There is more! Exceedingly, abundantly, Above all that we ask or think, exceedingly abundantly. Above all that we ask or think, exceedingly abundantly. Above all that we ask or think, exceedingly abundantly. Above all that We ask all things exceedingly abundantly above all that. We ask all things exceedingly abundantly above all that. We ask all things exceedingly abundantly above all that.
We ask all things exceedingly abundantly above all that.

And as we close tonight, Ladies, we also want to remind you that what God places in your hands can become a seed that reaches far beyond you. When you give, you're not just giving towards a moment, you're helping make ministry possible and helping carry the hope of Jesus to people and communities around the world. Your generosity helps support the mission, outreach, and ministry work happening through Through Redemption and Hope Carpenter Ministries. Every seed matters, and every act of obedience can make an eternal difference. If you feel led to sow tonight, simply scan the QR code or click the link in the chat to learn more about giving and missions.
