A short monologue (Ian Ugarte) about the power of focus and mindset: where you place attention shapes outcomes. Uses two core anecdotes — Anthony Robbins learning to focus while driving on ice, and a golf example where focusing on avoiding a hazard causes the ball to land there — to illustrate that one should train the unconscious mind to aim toward desired outcomes and visualize success (e.g., finishing a property deal) rather than rehearsing objections or failure.

Ever heard where focus goes, energy flows?
People focus on stuff that they shouldn't focus on. Now remember, I'm not saying think positive, but there's a whole bunch of people and we all do it. We focus on the worst part of what could happen. I once saw the many times I've seen Anthony Robbins speak. I saw him speaking about how he went to can't remember where it was, but some very cold country where they've carved a Le Mans track into the ice and they've got Ferraris and Lamborghinis and race cars there. And I don't know how much it costs, but you go in there, you hire the car, they give you a professional driver, and if you write the car off, you pay for it. So he's talking about how the driver is taking him through the pacing and how he starts to build confidence on the ice. And then the driver saying to him, keep your focus, keep your focus. And so he pushes a little bit harder and he ends up sliding on the ice. And Anthony Robbins is looking at the wall of ice that he's sliding towards. And the driver physically, the instructor physically grabs Robin's chin and pulls it across. So he's looking in a different direction, not at the focus of the wall. And all of a sudden he's able to, instead of braking like most of us do when we see a negative focus, he accelerates and pushes out of the corner and he's no longer focused on hitting the wall. And so you've got to train your non conscious mind to take your focus towards where you want to go. A classic example of this is you could be playing the best golf round you've ever played. You get to the last hole and you say, I'm just going to play it safe here and you look at the lake and you say, I'm going to stay away from that lake. And sure as fuck, where does the ball go? Straight in the middle of the lake. So focus on exactly where you want to go. If it's a property deal, focus on what you're going to do when you succeed getting the DA through. Don't focus on how many objections you think you're going to get, because sure, as a golf ball in the middle of the lake, you're going to progress with a whole bunch of complaints and your focus will go towards the complaints and not towards the end of the deal.
