Nose or mouth breathing - Which is better? | #AskWim

Wim Hof explains why nasal breathing beats mouth breathing. Nose breathing delivers nitric oxide, which relaxes blood vessels and reduces stress, while mouth breathing triggers an adrenaline response that increases long-term stress. For his breathing method, nasal inhalation gives beginners better control and prevents the loss of control that can happen with mouth breathing.

Hi guys, welcome to the Wim Hof Method breathing techniques questions and answers. It's coming. What is better, nasal breathing or mouth breathing when you inhale? I say it doesn't really matter, but in the beginning, this is about a very, very strong way how to get into your body, these breathing techniques. So you have more control if you go by nasal breathing in. I saw people inhaling through the mouth and losing their control, freezing their bodies. Like, and that's because too much came in and they still yet have not commenced to have a relationship with the strong consequences of this technique, which is the inner power. It's an inner world. You have to learn to cope with that. It's like a relationship. You don't start off, "Hello, I know you. Oh, so nice." No, easy does it. And see what the changes are within. Delicate. And controlled. Remain in control and build up the control through nasal breathing. That is the best way to go in the beginning. And at a certain moment, you know what is going to happen inside. You can take it on any way you like because you remain in control. So that's about the nasal and breathing within using the techniques. Now, during the rest of the day, what is better, nasal breathing or mouth breathing? I think it is nasal breathing. It's easier because your nitric oxide is going within, is included. That dilates the veins. It becomes more— your body becomes more relaxed. And the blood flow goes better through your system. When you do mouth breathing, it's like— Something is going on. The adrenaline shoots. The constriction of your veins is there. So you are faster and you are in a fight mode. We don't feel that necessarily directly, but in the long term, mouth breathing instead of Conscious nasal breathing makes your body more stressful. So I advise during the day more nasal breathing. Conscious nasal breathing is amazing what it does. You get more peace inside, more flow, more opening up of all the vessels inside. It's still 100,000 kilometers we are talking about. That's the vascular system. And that is being influenced by the nitrous oxide, which comes included when you do nasal breathing. It stops at the moment when you do mouth breathing. And another thing is, don't go too far with it all. Just take it easy. As much as that. Good luck. What if you are inhibited because you cannot breathe as much or as good? And that could have numerous causes like COPD or asthma or being paralyzed or whatever happens in the lungs and they are inhibited and that makes you not being able to use the full capacity of your lungs. Then conscious breathing Consciousness, your neurology is able to influence the capacity which is physically inhibited. But through conscious breathing, you're able to open up more, to coerce more inside of your lungs. You always will have a better outcome if you go into conscious breathing. Trying to do your best. Not forcing, just trying to do your best with determination of your mind into conscious breathing opens up new possibilities in the damaged lungs or inhibited lungs. I see this with people who are even paralyzed. They have deteriorating conditions of their lungs because their vascular system is not being used. They are lying there And it's all connected. Oxygen goes into the blood, the blood doesn't take it as good into the system, so the breathing is not being used as effective, and thus the conditions of the lungs deteriorate. This is very there. And those people have a lot of benefits through— through they are inhibited in the lung capacity to use to make oxygen go in. They are finding a lot of benefits through conscious breathing. So if you are physically inhibited, do it conscious, this conscious breathing, and you will find new possibilities will arise. Good luck. Thanks, guys, for all the questions.
