Daniel practices the Wim Hof Method, using cold exposure and controlled breathing to manage stress and sharpen focus. Cold forces his attention onto the sensation itself, while the breathing exercises bring a calm he carries through his day. He says it beats coffee for sustained energy without the jitters.

My name is Daniel. I'm from the United States. The Wim Hof Method provides me the ability to handle stress by going into the cold. And the cold has a way of making you focus. It gets rid of everything else. And by making you focus on only the cold, on only heating your body, everything else, all the stress, all the thoughts that you had before, they disappear. And then with the breathing, it allows you to, at your own command, whenever you want, you start the breathing, you do the breathing, and you stop breathing, you hold your breath, and that's when you find the calm. And you can take that with you wherever you go. You can do it in your apartment, in your house, you know, wherever you can find a little bit of time for yourself to do it. You can do it. After I do the breathing in the morning, the rest of my day is always more calm, and yet at the same time, it is always filled with like a solid flow of energy. You know, it really sets you up to have energy the rest of the day, but at the same time feeling calm. Not like the way 2 cups of coffee sets you up to feel energy the rest of the day, but you're not calm. This is calm. I think it's fantastic for anyone who's really, really interested in pushing themselves a little bit. Not necessarily— not like running a triathlon, or a marathon rather, or doing a triathlon or something like that, but really pushing yourself to find your own calm, your own sense of peace, and to make your own life better.
