Wim Hof on Sadness, Motivation & Finding Inspiration

Wim Hof says sadness is a loss of purpose and offers three tools to restore it: breathing, belief, and cold exposure. He describes creativity as an expression of life's force and credits his audience for fueling his mission to help people become happy, strong, and healthy.

Hi guys, welcome back. I got some answers, I got some questions. Thank you for coming. How do I stay motivated? That's purpose. That is connection with your deeper self. It is a sadness. Sadness is when you are demotivated, when you have no purpose, when you don't feel the purpose. It's when you gotta look for purpose, and purpose is always within. Only sometimes we get disconnected or we get confused or our mind is somewhere else. At a certain moment we disconnect through minding about other things than what is most important. And that is your purpose. Your purpose is always residing inward. It doesn't matter what color or what kind of shape purpose has. It's there. It's your deeper self. And once you find that, you find the motivation, you find the energy to keep on going. You are driven stronger than your mind. How do I do it? Breathing. Believing. The cold. Amazing. Works. What do I do when I feel sad? When I feel sad, I go within. And do breathing. Breathing helps. It alkalizes the body and it reconnects you with whatever you felt disconnected, sad. If I feel sad, then I will connect with my deeper self through breathing. I do a good breathing session and I feel light again instead of heavy. Heavy is like sadness, like you feel confused, you can't get out, there's something missing. It could be a person, it could be emotion. But breathing helps. What does creativity mean to me? To create a better world. To create a painting. To be with my family. It's about the lust for life. Life is a creation. And if you lose the connection with life force within yourself, you lose it from your creative self. Because the creative self goes by itself. You got it, I got it. And it comes out like a painting or a baby or a chair or a travel or a career. It doesn't matter. As long as you feel created, creating, the life force and you are connected. And you go by yourself. Isn't that beautiful? The activity is amazing. It's balancing. You got to be in the moment. I want to make a bird tube now. What makes me feel inspired? You. You make me feel inspired. Because I want to— I think that life is to create a paradise. If it isn't there, we created it. And it cannot be without you. So I am out there. I'm in here, out there, doing it through science, through records, through anything what is at my disposal to make people happy, strong, and healthy. That's my purpose. That is my inspiration, and that is you. How to connect with nature when you live in the city? I'm here in Spain doing an international retreat, and people connect with nature here coming from cities like New York or Sydney or Tokyo. And they feel the connection by going into the cold as a natural power, natural force. Environmental greatest of the forces of nature is cold. It brings you back and shows you who you are and what you are. And that connects automatically, naturally with the nature around you. Doesn't matter if you live in a city or not, you will feel it. Thanks guys for all the questions. If you have more, and comments, put them down here in the comments. Hey man, thank you. Great. Let's go. Keep on going. Yeah. This is the Rio Eserra and it comes from the Pyrenees. I'm going to very soon now dip in and be like a fish. The water is— there's never been so much snow in the mountains. Further up and it's melting. And here we got the water. It looks like nice and warm and hot, but inside the water it's freezing cold, the way I love it. Yeah, I got a good rock. This fresh and cold. Ah yeah. That's good. Oh, oh, just flow with the river. Amazing.
