In this solo podcast episode, the host (Speaker A) addresses a pervasive issue among designers: they possess many skills but lack clear direction and execution, leading to stagnation. Drawing on community poll data and internal metrics, the host highlights low completion rates in typical online learning (3‑4%) versus the Design for Change community’s higher rates (29‑32% overall, 67 completions in a recent hackathon). The discussion points to three failure points—direction, execution, and proof of work—and links them to inconsistent motivation and confidence. To combat this, the host proposes a concrete "learning reset" framework: identify one target role, desired CTC, niche domain, a single week‑long project, and a measurable output metric. This structured, accountable approach is positioned as a replacement for endless skill‑accumulation without purpose. The episode concludes with a call to join community sessions, attend a free masterclass, and apply the reset to revitalize design learning journeys.

Welcome to the Design for Change. Thank you for staying tuning in this podcast I want to talk about very important problem which recently I had been facing with all of the designers as well. And some of the people in our community also have resonated. Okay, so why you are not stuck because of skill, you are stuck because of the direction and execution Jack execution gap. So this is a core truth of all the design people who are learning across the globe. Why is this a bigger, bigger issue? So when I did this poll, when I did this community answer, like in a word cloud, it's very clear that people don't want skills. People are learning skills one or the other way from many places. People want exactly accountability, people want exactly a sense of belonging, people want clarity and people want to improve their design communication and go forward. So in order to tell you this, let me tell you. Today, designers are not over skilled guys, but they are under directed. Too many inputs coming from many places, but no implementation at all. Everybody is learning, but only few people are moving. See guys, most of the designers are not confused because they don't know design. They're confused because nobody told them what matters now, what they need to be aware right now, what needs to be done in the next month, next week, next year. What is their plan and goal? A big, big myth which the designer is facing is I need to learn one more certification, I need to get one more course done. I need a better fancy AI tool. I need to master all the skill and everything Skills without a direction, guys, let me tell you, it will create a paralysis for you, okay? Direction is important. Learning without the deadlines and a process creates completely a comfort, not a growth. You get stuck in learning for number of months. You must have seen many people either in your hackathons or either in your design circle or learning or group or WhatsApp or wherever. They are very excited to share a lot of information. They'll talk about this tool, they'll talk about that concept. But when you go and ask them, hey, tell me what's your ctc? They'll be like, I'm out of the job, I'm not getting job, I'm trying. Okay, so the real gap is not about learning, it's about the direction. What should you exactly focus on today? What should you focus on this next month, next week that is missing? Are you implementing the things what you learned today? Are you just consuming like a consumer in online? Can I show one progress? Can I show progress of the community? Guys, in the last one year, the progress of the community is 29 to 32% course completion rate. And in the single last hackathon alone, we created around 67 people who got the course completion certificate done. That means they have completed a project, they've given a proof, they are ready for the job market to start. But I'm worried about the remaining 30 to 40% of the people. So it is actually little better than any community out there in the market. And also a typical online learning programs, because in a typical online learning program, the course completion rate is 3 to 4% and the assignment rate is even more poorer. In our case, the assignment rate is little different. Design for change Community has a high accountability and we have early morning sessions where people cannot really ignore or they cannot say, I don't have time, I'm busy, and this, that and all. Okay, so most designers fail in at least two of these three places. Either direction, execution, or the proof. What exactly. You are lagging. See, I showed the proof of the community, but you have to relate to it. Okay, so students always says this thing, I am stuck. I don't know what is the problem. I am stuck. The word consistency keeps coming up in every single place. I'm missing consistency. I'm one day I'm getting motivated, but the other day I'm missing out. Okay, so confidence, confidence is completely getting dropped. And the progress is becoming so invisible because you're not becoming consistent. So when progress is invisible, motivation dies. That is why you need to have every single week coming on the hackathon sessions on the inner circle recharge. And when you mark your attendance, get your points and rewards, you become visible, you come to the fractal sessions, you come to the incubation calls of frac squadrons, you connect with your commanders, you connect with me on the huddle calls, then automatically your visibility matters, your motivation is on. Okay, so I'll give you a simple reset. This podcast is called a community learning reset. And also the design learning reset is because of this reason. Example, I'll ask you, what are the one role which you're really targeting right now? Write it down in a paper, take a paper and instantly do it. Okay, I'm waiting in this podcast. You can pause it and you can do it. Okay, I hope you're doing it. What are the one role which you're targeting? Are you targeting a designer role or a senior designer or a mid level or a product manager or a lead? What is the salary which you're really looking at? Ctc. Okay, now after you've written the CTC and the role and Designation. Tell me what are the one niche and the area which you wanted to work which is like a domain? Fintech, Healthcare, E commerce, Edutech, Multimedia, whatever, ar, VR, anything. Okay, next, what are the one key project which you think can help you get that job offer for that designation using this project? Think about it and think about this one week. You're going to do it as a one week project. From now on, even if you have not done anything, this can become a one week reset for you. And now write it down. What one visible output I can bring in this project example, if you have taken a payment improvement application, you think about one visible output. I want to reduce the transaction user flow time. I want to reduce the transaction time. I want to reduce the overall user flow journey from 10 steps to 5 steps. I want to redesign the Aadhar Kyc verification system. I want to decrease the speed of the people who are booking the online products in the Amazon and the E commerce. You take any problem but have only one metrics. You don't need to win your career today guys. You just need to win this particular one week to complete this one metric, to complete this one project, to complete this one visible key output. And then automatically you try applying for the job for this one role and CTC what you're looking at. Okay, so I just want to reassure this. It's okay to definitely feel stuck. Being stuck doesn't mean that you're behind. It means you need a structure, you need a system. You need accountability, not motivation. Okay? That's exactly why we are changing how we learn and execute things inside the Design for Change community. So think about it. If you're someone who is listening to this part of this audio, if you're there in the community, connect with me on every single session and give me a thumbs up that you have listened to this podcast and you're with me. One week, one project, one role, one ctc, one metric. This will change your entire learning journey into a reset. I wish you all the best. Catch you up in the next episode. Thank you. Bye bye.
