On a personal level, it provided us with so much satisfaction to be able to say, oh, we're moving in and it came under budget and under time.
I think one of the scariest factors about starting a build is the cost, and it took a little while for us to warm to the idea of going to these, you know, big estates where you can go and have a look at these places which are built and they look wonderful and you get a You see the price for that, and of course, you know, the one you go and tour is the one you've specced out the most. And then when you talk to Enduro and you're trying to think, well, how does this equate? And it doesn't. I think that's the thing. I don't know how you put a figure on the quality of the build.
We may have, just for fun, gone to look at display homes after we'd built our house, and we went through and looked at this house that was about $300,000 more than what we spent on on our build, and the quality of it was not the same. It— like, we could sort of poke things and go, it's so plasticky, or cheap feeling, or cheap looking. And with a very fussy wife, that matters. Um, but yeah, the quality is probably a little different as well.
I don't know how you put a figure on the confidence you have with the builder, or how do you put a figure on the enjoyment of the building process itself. But, uh, yeah, you know, of all those shows we've watched, of all those people that we have Spoken to and heard from who have found building stressful and difficult. That has not been our experience at all. So I think once you've got used to the idea of the cost of the building and that with that cost you'll get a very high-quality, energy-efficient building that you can move straight into without having to do anything, and you'll be looked after with warranty, then it's worth every penny. And if all you do is sit down and talk with Enduro Builders, then that's, that's time very well spent. If I had to single out the most enjoyable thing about working with Jackson and Enduro, it would be that, well, we can't get rid of the guy, he's still here. So, you know, here we are coming up to 9 months after moving in, he's still interested, he's still helping out.
We had a very inefficient house prior to this one, and so health was the biggest reason. We noticed all sorts of damp and mould issues and health issues, breathing and skin and sort of things. So we wanted to build with someone that we trusted, and we had a lot of friends who had also built with Jackson, so we sort of made sure we went and spoke to them and found out their experiences.
Yeah, I think before we chose Endura, we had also spoken to a number of other builders, and they had given us their various ideas and thoughts. And we were a bit nervous too, I think, about going with someone that we knew. However, when we did our due diligence and spoke to people who had used Endura before, they also had nothing but good things to say. And we started to get that feeling too as we started speaking more with Jackson and the team. They seemed to know what they're talking about. I even remember at one point asking Jackson, so, you know, does this quote include the contingency? And he looks at me and says, well, what contingency? We're very accurate in what we're doing. We don't need a contingency. And that gave us a fair bit of confidence.
I think we really noticed that as well speaking with other builders because they would say, oh, it'll be this ballpark figure, but obviously you've got to allow for changes. And there was so much more, I think, accuracy and consistency in everything Jackson and everyone, anyone we spoke to really, said in comparison to anyone we'd got other quotes from or even just building discussions with.
One of the interesting things about the progression of the building was I remember telling a number of people that we've been given this schedule. This is the start date, this is the end date. And pretty much everyone said, that's a load of crap. They're never gonna meet that, you know. You'll be months and months over time, and of course over budget. But I think they were just so good in full planning that they knew when the start date would be and they knew when the end date would be.
When it comes to efficient systems, Enduro have that down pat. They have the online system, so it's very transparent. They can see You can see what's happening, we can see what's happening. That ticked all the boxes for me. The one word that comes to mind as soon as I think of working with Enduro was transparency.
If I had to come up with a word or a phrase to encapsulate Enduro, I think it's efficiency. And that makes a big difference. We are busy people, and knowing that we— that the process is run efficiently and it's managed at the highest level and down to the smallest detail makes a huge difference for our lives.
I think we expected in building a house that it would be some sort of stressful process. We'd seen all of the TV shows, and we expected a level of stress, I think, didn't we? We sort of prepared ourselves, and it was So enjoyable. Like, we were involved and we were so happy with the outcome in the end, and each step of the way was— yeah, I think enjoyable is just the word that it was.
