Jackson Digney of Enduro Builders starts a series on building a certified Passive House in Adelaide Hills. The key difference from low-energy homes: strict thermal requirements and foam insulation under the slab to minimize heat loss to the ground, keeping winter warmth in without affecting summer cooling.

Hi, it's Jackson Digney from Enduro Builders. Welcome to the beginning of our video series on the construction of our certified Passive House display home. The house is being built in Spring Lake in the Adelaide Hills near Mount Barker. It's been architecturally designed for generational living as a family home. We often talk about comfort with Passive House and energy-efficient homes, and what we mean by comfort is the difference in temperature between the coldest the house gets and the warmest the house gets. The difference between a low-energy house and a Passive House is that there are certain requirements that you absolutely have to meet to have a high-quality thermal envelope. In the case of this Passive House, We need to put foam insulation under the slab. By insulating the slab from the ground, you reduce the heat loss through your slab, which helps with maintaining the temperature of the house in winter and has a very negligible impact on cooling in summer. We're really excited about it. We're looking forward to showing it to you at completion, and we hope you enjoy the journey of watching us build this home.
