In this YouTube video, Robyn Anderson explains how she constructed a comprehensive family tree reaching back to the 1800s without using DNA kits or paid subscriptions. She outlines a four‑prompt workflow: (1) an interview‑style prompt that gathers information about the viewer’s grandparents and sparks deeper historical curiosity; (2) a prompt that organizes the collected data; (3) a prompt that recommends free historical websites to fill gaps; and (4) a prompt that assembles the final family tree. Robyn shares a personal breakthrough—discovering her great‑great‑grandmother’s previously unknown last name, which moved her emotionally. She invites viewers to comment “family” to receive the prompts for their own genealogical projects.

Chapters

I just built an entire family tree going back to the 1800s. No DNA kit, no subscriptions. It was all with these 4 prompts. The first prompt interviews you about your grandparents and it lets you kind of go into the history of where you come from. The second one organizes all of the information, and the third one tells you what free historical websites you could go to to get any of the missing information. And then the fourth builds your actual family tree. I found my great-great-grandmother's last name and I had never known it, and honestly made me a little teary-eyed. Comment family and I'll send you the prompt so that you can create yours.
