Just Jam: Google Serach Console, Jerks & a custom AI path

Robyn Anderson explains three areas where she avoids relying on AI: using Google Search Console to track content across social platforms, calling out unethical subscription cancellation practices, and choosing a personalized technical path when building AI tools. She frames AI as a megaphone for existing expertise, not a replacement for human judgment.

You don't need to be technical. You just need a friend who understands AI in business and can explain something difficult to you and make it easy in just 15 minutes. I'm Jam and this is Just Jam. Let's get into it. Hey friends, welcome back to Just Jam. Today I wanna talk about 3 things that we don't use AI for and why. So a few months ago I was at a college graduation party and I was talking to one of my friends, Logan, who's a college grad and he's super smart. Smart kid. He was valedictorian. He immediately got hired for a high-up position in Washington, D.C., and he's an awesome kid. Anyways, he's fascinated by AI, but he told me he never uses it and he didn't use it in college, but he's looking to use it now. And the reason he didn't use it in college is he wanted to develop the skills of writing and thinking so that he could use AI to kind of further that in the future. So it's interesting because he said he saw all of his college friends using AI, but they were just kind of like letting AI do whatever and sending it on to their professors, their friends, putting stuff into their papers, and they didn't have the reps behind them to know that it wasn't a good email. It wasn't a good paper. Maybe that's not something you should say to your friend. But us, the business owners who have been doing this stuff for years and years and years, AI is such an advantage because we know what good what good looks like, and we know what a successful piece of content looks like. And so we can have AI kind of model it until it gets there. So I just wanted to talk through that because it's such a cool concept. And those of you who have been running a business, you're in such a good place right now to apply AI to excel you. It's not replacing you, it's empowering you. It's giving you a megaphone to do more. I want to talk about 3 things today that are outside of AI, just because there's, you know, there's the reps that I've been putting in over the 20 years that I've been running businesses. And there's a few things that ChatGPT or Claude wouldn't remind me to do, but I know to do anyway. One of those things is Google Search Console. So Google Search Console is where you can kind of have a bird's eye view of who's coming to your website, where are they coming from, what blog post drove the most traffic. So it's a full-blown analytics platform. You can see what sort of search topics or search terms are getting people to your website. And once you have search topics and search terms, you know what sort of content you could build around, right? So for me, I run JMAI. If I can see that people are searching how to use Copilot or what's the difference between Copilot and Claude, and then they end up, end up on my site, I know I should create more content like that. So all of these analytics are super important to feed to our robots, but a lot of people in ClubJam didn't have Google Search Console set up at all, and they didn't know what it was. Um, so I have a whole training on that in ClubJam, but what I want to talk about today is a new feature that Google Search Console came out with. And they actually gave us the ability to add new properties, which would be social platforms. So just this morning, I was able to add my TikTok, my Instagram, and my YouTube account. And so now my Google Search Console isn't just looking at data points of who's coming to jamout.ai. It's looking at data points of what sort of material, what content, what videos are out there. On these platforms and how are people getting to them and searching for them. So this is another point for that is a lot of us are feeling bad because we work so hard on our social media, but we haven't really hit that viral point, right? You haven't had the 300 million subscribers happen yet, and that's okay. But what you can do is know that you're doing all the right things, right? You're expanding your digital footprint with every post you make, and Google Search Console is showing you exactly that. So maybe your video didn't go viral, but maybe it helped somebody find the information they were looking for. Maybe it's coming up in searches. So now we can see that. So I highly recommend you go and set that up. I have a video on my YouTube of how to do it. It takes 1 minute to do. Um, the other thing that came up this week is I'm creating another school community for AI consultants. And so I was just researching kind of what is the best way to do more of a, uh, team-like community, right? And I stumbled into this Reddit thread and it was all about how to trap people in your subscriptions. And just yesterday in Club Jam, Kevin, uh, our AI expert hosted a session on like launching your app and getting paid. So we just showed a bunch of people how to launch apps and get paid. And then I went to this Reddit and it was all about trapping people in a subscription and different ways to hide the cancel button or different ways to have multiple different Stripe accounts and trap people. And I just hated it so much because now everybody has the ability to launch a website that looks really professional. You can put a few thousand dollars beside, behind your Meta ads and grow quickly. And if people are following this, which it had thousands of comments of people giving tips on this, if people are are actually following this information, it makes me very mad. Um, the number one thing in business is be a good human. Be a good human. If somebody needs to cancel their membership, let them cancel their membership or subscription. Don't trap people into your product. You know, the, the person who emails you to cancel, they have a reason. They have a financial concern. I had a woman, I have people email me every week. Saying, oh my gosh, money's tight. I love the program. Is there anything I could do to pause my membership? I don't want to leave, but I want to pause. There's so many ways around that. I have so many members in Club Jam that are on scholarship for a few months here and there. And all I ask is that they contribute to the community and I give them a couple months and then we have a talk and ask if they want to stay or not. And if they can't, that's fine. I wish them the best and I invite them to come back again in 6 months with another free trial or whatever I can do to help them. So don't set up a bunch of blockades. Be a good person. People will talk about your company if you are trapping them. It's not going to go well in the future. You won't be able to grow widespread because you're going to have a bad reputation. So that was the other thing that came up this week and I wanted to Get it out there. The last thing I wanted to go through that is something AI doesn't necessarily know to help with is the path for you. So there are so many different ways to build different platforms. There's different ways to build websites. There's different ways to write proposals, email newsletters. There's different ways to make your headshots with AI. There's thousands of different ways, actually. And yesterday I, again, we had, we had Kevin Ferrugia. If you don't know him, he's an amazing AI expert. He teaches biweekly for us. He was doing his webinar on how to build and launch your app. His way is more technical. He uses Cloud Code in Terminal. He likes to explain how every single thing works and how they all go together and the tech behind them. And while I love to understand that, I'm a marketer. I'm a salesperson. I'm a marketer, and I want things done. I want them to look good and I want them to work. So I have different ways of explaining what I do. There's a large group of people in our community that love the way Kevin works. There's also a large group of people that love the way I build. And then there's people who like to kind of take a little bit of both and make their own path. So yesterday I had a VIP call with one of my favorite members and she, she goes, "Jam, I want to use our time to build a page. I have 60 minutes. Let's go." So she's going to an event. She wanted to collect people's information and make a QR code. So there's so many ways to do that, right? We could use ChatGPT. We could use her GoHighLevel account. We could use Claude and create a HTML block. So after kind of talking through different ways and just like our timeline, I said, where is your site hosted? She said Squarespace. So we go, we're like, let's just have ChatGPT where she was already working on content for this event. Let's have ChatGPT build a landing page and we'll put it in Squarespace and call it a day. So we spent the hour just kind of talking through content and how it works. And we got it into Squarespace and we adjusted it, made it look okay. We were ready for it. Um, we go to launch it and then she realized, oh, that's actually not where I launch or I host my site anymore. So we couldn't make it live. So we had to do a pivot. She ended up using Lovable to create the page, which was a great bandaid. It made the page in like 20 minutes. It looked awesome and actually looked better than this Squarespace one. So that's what I just want you to think through is like, What's best for you. There's so many people who will watch a training and then panic and delete everything they're doing and like change the way that they're building. And I just want you to map it out, sit down, draw it out, and make sure that what you're building matches what you're, what you can do from a skillset perspective. So yeah, those are kind of the 3 things that I really wanted to talk to you all about. Remember, we are doing this together in Club Jam. We're currently running the AI Marketing Machine. You could join anytime. It's where I'm showing you how to do a prompt a day to build an entire marketing platform for your company. It's a 6-week sprint. And yeah, we'd love to have you join. And I hope to see you inside Club Jam. Thank you so much for listening. Have a great day.
