A short spoken-advice clip by James Sinclair giving practical early-stage guidance for startup co-founders. He urges founders to define complementary roles and responsibilities, decide public-facing titles (e.g., who is CEO), establish how to resolve major disagreements, set exit rules so departing founders don’t keep unearned equity, and agree on vesting periods—encouraging these conversations to happen as soon as possible.

If you're a startup co founder, here are some things that I think you should consider nice and early on. Number one, make sure your co founder has opposing opposite swim lanes of interest and expertise that they are happy with. As in you're going to do this, I'm going to do that, and we are both very happy with that. Who's going to be quoted in the press release and on the podcast as the co founder and CEO? Who is the CEO? What are you going to do when you get in an argument or you both violently disagree with each other? Who wins and how do you resolve it? What is the exit if one of you is unhappy so you're not walking away with all the equity and all the time not served? These are the topics and hard conversations you should be having up front. What is the vesting period for each of you? Things you have to talk about today because if you don't talk about them today, it's going to be a lot worse tomorrow.
