James Sinclair tells first-time founders to delay building your MVP. At the Friends-Family-Founders stage, the goal is learning what to build and why, not hiring developers and spending money on a product nobody wants yet.

First time entrepreneurs sabotage their company at the Triple F round, the Friends Family Founders round. They take money because they believe the objective is to build a product. And that is not the objective of the Triple F round. The objective is to do everything in your power not to build until you truly understand what you're building, why, how and what the goal is from that. But instead, you just dive straight in. You go on upwork, you hire an MVP engineer, you spend 40 to $100,000. You get nine months down the road. You've got a product with no traction, no custom, no revenue, maybe some learnings. And you're running out of money. And you can't raise money from angel investors because you haven't really proven anything except that your idea doesn't work or hasn't worked. So you're now trying to scrape dollars together to build that 10x feature that you think is going to change everything. It won't. Or you're trying to scrape money together to basically just keep this idea alive. That is fundamentally flawed. Start with an objective. Start with a strategy. Don't build. Good luck.
