A mentor is someone you call when overwhelmed to help deconstruct problems and map a path forward. Find two kinds: one slightly ahead on your path and one who has finished the full journey. They support both personal and professional growth.

A life hack I learned really early was the value of mentors in my life. A mentor being someone you can phone and say, I'm overwhelmed, I'm underwater, and I don't know what the f to do. Help. And the mentor says, no problem, let's meet. Let me deconstruct the problem, let's talk it through, and let's work out how to get you where you need to be. That's what a mentor does. Doesn't matter what the situation, doesn't matter what the topic. And ideally, you kind of have two types of mentors in your life. You have someone who's kind of just done the hike you're about to do, so there are a few clicks ahead, ahead of you on their journey, and then someone who's done the entire thing. Someone who's got more experience, more insights, maybe slightly older, has kind of different views. But a mentor is someone you can talk to about anything. Work, life, you name it. And they're going to help you develop professionally and personally. And it's just so valuable to have someone that you can call on to ask for help, to ask, to talk through stuff and to talk about your pains. Good luck.
