James Sinclair argues startup founders wait too long to think about partnerships. You don't need a VP of partnerships or polished APIs first. Identify what kind of partners you need early, because they expand your market and bring customers and relationships you don't have.

I think a lot of startup founders have this view that they can't execute a partner strategy and shouldn't even be thinking about it until they are more mature. Have a VP of partnerships, have full documentation, have perfect and flawless onboarding, have an entire API stack so that the customer and their implementation partner can do everything themselves. And the reality is, elements of that might be true, but foundationally it's not. Partners, whether that is sell with better together implementation, geographic partners, your platform partners, whatever they might be, really expand your service addressable market and give you access to customers that they are already selling to, already have an MSA employees place, understand their needs and know how to sell to them. I'm not suggesting you should jump to a partner led strategy today, I am suggesting you are starting to think what are the foundational requirements of my firm If I wanted to execute one, good luck.
