StartUp Fundraising: How Does Your Solution Align To The Future State?

James Sinclair explains why investors fund startups based on a 2-10 year vision, not today's product. Show how your solution aligns with emerging trends like AI or sustainability without abandoning what you actually built.

As a founder, if you're going out to raise money, you need to recognize that your angels, your VCs, they are investing in the future, in the 2, 4, 6, 10 year plan down the road. Your business is not going to blow up today and therefore they're more focused on the future. So I'm not telling you to be a fair weather founder or to follow the bandwagon, but if you see that the market is moving and investing in certain technologies or areas of interest, whether that's sustainability, whether that's, you know, electric, whether that's, you know, know crypto AI web 3 metaverse, if you see that the market seems to believe that there's something happening and within 2, 4, 6, 10 years, this is probably going to convert into something massive, then it behooves you to show alignment to your solution or a use case for your solution of how it matches the future trend. So I'm not saying again, change your solution and suddenly be an AI crypto metaverse solution. I'm saying how does what you're building align to the future trends of the industry and the future use cases that these angel investors of VCS are clearly staying and staking their money on? What is that use case? How does your solution play into that? Can you articulate that? Because for certain funds who are choosing to invest in specific areas of the market around their future thoughts, they need that hook. Ah, is there a play around sustainability? Is there a play around X? That's what they're looking for. So again, just to be clear, not saying you should change your entire startup and be a crypto metaverse web3 sustainability play, I'm saying make sure your solution aligns to a vision, a future vision of where the market's going and how it's going to get there and how your solution plays into it, as opposed to what your solution is right now, today. Because you're not going to blow up today. What's it going to look like in 2 years, 4 years, 6 years, 10 years? Good luck.
