A short spoken commentary (YouTube video by James Laughlin) that critiques equating success with income and reframes leadership as helping others realize their potential. The speaker warns against feeling arrogant about personal success and emphasizes that true leaders enable others rather than merely serving as placeholders until replaced.
Success has been bound quite regularly around how much money somebody earns. And everybody looks at that and goes, that's what I want to be. I want to be the guy that's earning 25 million a year. But actually, that's not leadership, that's helping yourself. Leadership is helping each of those individual people to see the potential of a path if they've got it within them to make that money. If you can't look like you're helping those people, then you're basically just a placeholder until the next placeholder comes along. That, I think is important. Just think about other people and that. Never feel arrogant about your success making you a better person.
