At cruising altitude, your taste buds go numb, so airlines load meals with salt and preservatives to make them taste like anything. Bring your own high-protein food instead: salads with protein, nuts, vegetables, Greek yogurt.
My take on it is that most food on an airplane is garbage and it's high salt, it's high preservatives.
Yeah, the salt thing is really interesting. It's not only for preservation, it's also because we don't taste as well at altitude. And so if you want to make food taste good and not taste undersalted, they're going to add more salt. But then the effects on the body are not great of that. Exactly the point.
Food-wise, what can we bring with us? That means it should be high protein, high nutrient.
Yeah. So if you're eating in the airport and then we'll go to what you can bring on a plane. If you're eating in an airport, airport, like salad with some protein is really an optimal option. Again, just staying away from fried, sugar, tons of salt, stuff like that is really helpful. Bring on the plane nuts if you like them. You know, any kind of like cut-up veggies or anything like that isn't that hard to put in a Ziploc bag. You know, if you like Greek yogurt, you can usually get that in the airport or even just bring with you. It's going to be okay at temperature for a little while. So things like that are all fine.
