A short transcript excerpt of Chris Luxon (as presented in the uploaded video) criticizing recent inward-looking, insular tendencies and arguing New Zealand should be more outward-looking, confident, ambitious and aspirational. He states that part of his job as Prime Minister will be to build deep international relationships and reconnect the country to the world.
It's one of our real strengths is that we haven't become a parochial, inward looking place, that we've always been externally oriented, right? Our parents, our parents generate grandparents. Generation always went out in the world. And I think we've lost that a little bit in the last six years, if I'm honest. I think we have become inward looking, insular, isolated, a bit wet and whiny and negative. And I think we need to become much more ambitious and aspirational and positive and confident. And a big part of that is lift up our eyes and look out and go out into the world and engage and back ourselves and be confident that we can do well out there. So my job will be a lot of that is just. Just making sure I'm building deep relationships and connectivity to other parts of the world.
