The speaker emphasizes that some challenges, mild anxiety, and occasional lows are normal and contributes to overall well-being, while chronic overwhelming stress is harmful.

Type of stress called eustress. It's positive challenge. And if we have no eustress or no positive stress in our life, we get very, very sick. There's another type of stress as well. It's called distress. And that's the negative stress. That's like relationship problems, financial problems, health problems, like overwhelming volumes of chronic elevated tension in your life for a long period of time. Let's say it's work challenges or all sorts of other things that we don't feel is basically positive and challenging. They're what are problematic for us. And in both cases, the magic of that is to try to create this balance. Stress and you stress. You want some challenges. You don't want things to be always perfect. You need some ups and downs in life as well. You want to be happy, but you also want to be sad. You want to be excited, but you also want to be a little bit anxious every once in a while. You want to feel joyfulness and fulfillment at the same time. It's okay to feel a little bit down, not chronically depressed, but it's okay to have the full range of human experiences and that stress is included in that.
