Short excerpt from a YouTube interview where James Laughlin asks an interlocutor about how years of reading have changed their self-awareness and view of the world; the exchange centers on personal development and reflective awareness (cognitive/behavioral themes).
You're one of the most well read people I've ever met. So what has been the product of years of that? What has changed in your awareness about.
Yourself and the.
World and what has changed in your life?
Well, I think sometimes, and I can't remember where I first heard this, but what we're playing for in life is raising our own state of mind from moment to moment. Right. I'm a big believer in, you know, the premise of cognitive behavioral psychology, that what we have moment to moment is the constellation of our thoughts, our feelings and our actions. And those three things determine sort of our experience of life. What you could say our way of being. And what I'm going for in my own journey is to elevate my way of being so that I have the 2/10 of a second when something happens that I can choose my response rather than an instinctive reaction.
