Short excerpt from a YouTube video (uploaded by James Laughlin) featuring John Key delivering a monologue about political philosophy and environmental policy. In this chunk Key contrasts right/left political views, claims his side did more for the environment, and recounts an attempt to create an ocean sanctuary ("the Kumiaks"/fifth-largest) that he says the Māori legally challenged in the Supreme Court.

The right of politics believes in less government, more empowerment of people, and that people will follow their own beliefs and their own hard work and their own incentives, if you like, to look after themselves and their family. And the right and the left of politics philosophically believes the system's not quite fair and we should take money off some of those people and give it to these people to balance up the unfairness. So, by the way, it's not true, you might think, oh, the left cares more about the environment. It's actually not true. We did more for the environment, honestly, I reckon, than the right, than the left have done. On various times we tried to put the Kumiaks into an ocean sanctuary and the Maoris took me to court to stop me doing it. Despite the fact that every day they get up and tell you the only thing we care about is, you know, guardianship of the environment. The fifth biggest ocean sanctuary in the world. They legally took me to the Supreme Court to stop me doing it. Wow.
