A short monologue (YouTube video) by James Laughlin reflecting on how communities can live together facing a difficult future shaped by climate change, political shortcomings, and imminent natural-disaster risks such as the Alpine Fault. The speaker expresses personal experience (working from age 14), frustration with politicians, concern for New Zealand’s preparedness, and emotional overwhelm at the scale of the problem.

How do we live together as communities? A very challenging future in terms of climate change. People always thought I was slightly, a bit weird. I worked from when I was about 14, every school holiday. When I look at politicians, they're not doing very well. You know when people talk about New Zealand, oh, it's like a third world country now. Well, that's a bit mean to third world countries. The Alpine fault, where people will be pushed out of homes and businesses. I can't deal with that all myself. To think about it overwhelms me. It's almost too big for people to think about. It's the end of the world.
