A short excerpt from a YouTube video (uploaded/created by James Laughlin) in which James Laughlin and another speaker discuss the idea that "you create your own luck," framing luck as the equation: preparation plus opportunity. The clip emphasizes developing skill and knowledge so one is ready when opportunities arrive.
You create your own luck. And you've got to set yourself up so when the time comes along, you've got the skill and you've got the know.
How? Well, you know the equation, luck equals preparation plus opportunity.
There you go.
And. Or you, you know, if you don't want to call it luck, you call it good fortune. It equals preparation plus opportunity. So you prepare like crazy. You prepare, you prepare, you prepare. And when the opportunity presents itself, are you ready to go through that door? That's what I say when I mentor people now, when I coach people. This is exactly the equation I use. Yeah, you might say I was lucky, but I worked my butt off to get lucky, if you know what I'm saying.
