Short excerpt from a YouTube video in which Samuel Whitelock recounts advice from All Blacks manager Darren Shand: negative actions are amplified socially more than positive ones (negative: shared with ~7 people; positive: ~3 people). Whitelock stresses deliberately increasing positive actions and repeating them to build culture and counterbalance the easier-to-notice negative moments.

One thing that the All Blacks used to always say, and Darren Shannon's All Black manager when I was there, and he'd be 100% right on this, he would say, if you did something negative, that person is going to go tell seven people. If you do something positive, they're going to go tell three people. So it's really easy and it's human nature to look at the negatives, the glass half empty. So you've got to do more positive things, more things that are going to enhance your culture. And you gotta do them more to actually have that change. Because the negative things are so easy to talk about, the easy to spot, easy to see, and people share them more. So for me, that was something that really hit home of, okay, yep, we're sweeping the sheds and all those things. But it's not just that. It's actually so many more things rather than the one time you don't do it is the time they'll tell everyone. And then all of a sudden, you've got to start back from where you were to get forward, to get that change, make that change a habit.
